Too often, people with intellectual developmental disabilities (IDD)are not included in even the most basic decisions about where and with whom they live. However, there are programs that are making

strides in increasing the number of people with IDD who live in affordable, accessible, and integrated housing that they control. This webinar will include best and promising practices drawn from real examples, studies, and lessons learned from experts working on housing issues and policy at the national, state and local levels. Their valuable knowledge, insight, and guidance will address how to overcome the challenging barriers that impede individuals with IDD from achieving the goals of self-direction and community integration.PRESENTERS:Jay Klein is Associate Clinical Professor in the Social Work School in the College for Public Programs at Arizona State University where he was director of the Initiative on Inclusive Communities from 2008-2010. For nearly twenty years, Jay was Director of the Center for Housing and New Community Economics and the National Home of Your Own Alliance at the

University of New Hampshire’s Institute on Disability. As an international leader and educator in efforts to include people with disabilities in community life, Jay has in depth knowledge of with financial, policy and programmatic issues that impact the ability of people with disabilities to accumulate assets to live in communities. He has authored forty-five: articles, chapters, workbooks and videos on topics such as supported living, homeownership, developing natural supports, community development, communication dynamics, and a training manual for homebuyers. Joe Wykowski is Executive Director of Community Vision in Portland Oregon, a person centered organization providing individual supports to over sixty individuals and families. Joe founded the Homeownership Empowerment Program, which assists individuals or families with purchasing a home. He consults with various housing coalitions across the country

concerning the creation of individual housing opportunities and personal supports for persons with disabilities. Joe is a consultant for land’s Community of Practice Initiative that assists organizations with helping individuals with disabilities gain control of their own housing opportunities.
