Guest guest
<I wrote on my awful, red, raw, burning skin a few days ago. I started on prednisone Friday 60 mg. for three days, then 40 for three days, and then 20 for three days.....I have to say that this was my third day on the prednisone and I can actually see LARGE patches of regular colored skin and the pain has decreased quite a bit.....it seems like it sure is helping> Judy HI Judy, Hooray for you! It makes logical sense (to me) that the prednisone could help. It's a potent steroid and very similiar to cortisone which the body manufactures. Steroids like that are used to reduce pain from inflammation, heat, redness, swelling, itch & pain by suppressing the immune system, (as it's used for many conditions) and generally a physician would give a 'topical' steroid if the skin is involved. So instead, you are taking an oral one, the Prednisone... but the premise is basically the same. It stabilizes and slows down an overactive immune system. Just remember the longer you are on an oral steroid there can be some side effects (I mean long term) and it should always be tapered down (not stopped cold turkey) that's why even the dosage you wrote about was tapered less & less... hopefully you won't need to get that refilled and it's enough to do the job. (and...that it won't return) I'm just so glad you're getting some relief hon and hope it continues. Good luck. HugsDee~
Guest guest
Hi Dee, I haven't been able to use anything on my skin at all without it flaring up. Even the Lidocane for pain made it flare up badly. So that was our reasoning for prednisone. Also, I had the steroid injections about 2 months ago into the skin and have used steroid creams in the past. She felt like the reason my skin was reacting to anything was past medications. I am also scheduled for the caudal nerve block on June 6th. So hopefully between the two I can get off some of the other medications and go on. Thank you, Dee, you have been SO informative and supportive. I was feeling so low and your first response really helped pull me out of that. I started looking for solutions again. Thank you so much. Guest guest
awwh HI Judy... hon you are more than welcome I'm sure if anything I said might have helped, it's my pleasure believe me. I know when the tissue is so excoriated that anything going over it or on it can be like walking thru the fire. *sigh* I sure remember just air or water doing that to me. It really did make good sense (I think) to use a steroid systemically and that was smart of your doctor. Unusual, but good reasoning. I hope that caudal block helps hon.... but what I'm really hoping *grin*is that maybe by that date you might not need it IF the oral prednisone does it's job. (maybe wishful thinking) but just so something helps as the bottom line. Be sure to let us know how it goes. Big hugs honDee
