Yes Amy I believe God Is Good. I like to think of life like a dentist appointment. We sit for an hour patiently taking whatever pain the dentist inflicts, trusting that he is looking out for our longer time good.. In the same way I will patiently endure whatever short term pain that God allows me to go through, trusting God that it is for my good in the long term (eternity).

When I was first diagnosed back in 1989 (pre URSO days) the prognosis was not very good. I was given an old text that listed the live expectancy of some one with PSC as 6 years.

During the first ten years I was not required to do much to help my liver (I gave up liquor, but it was not hard since I never was a big drinker), they were just monitoring me, the occasional ultra sound and semi regular blood tests. It was hard during those years, any time I got a cold or flu, we wondered if it was the start of something bad. In 1999 my liver enzymes started to rise dramatically, but a long dose of antibodies brought the numbers back down and the introduction of URSO as kept them down. My wife now figures my liver is not going to be the death of me. I have not am are not expecting to need a transplant, but I'm saving that as a last resort,

I did not know of or join this group until the start of this summer and did not know anyone who has PSC. Joining the group has been a great support and knowledge base to me. I am trying supplements of fish oil and vitamin D to see if that will bring my Liver enzymes back into the normal range.

I am now also now on blood thinners. I've had a couple of DVT (deep vein thrombosis, blood clots) which I am told (by this group) are PSC related.

Attached are graphs of my liver enzymes.
