Guest guest
Jen, Before I started any medications for pain and depression I thought my husband was going to have to commit me to an institution. I could not stop crying and couldn't stand it. I am not taking effexor, but I am taking an antidepressant. It has kept me at least sane. This doesn't mean I don't cry or feel low, but I couldn't stand it before I started the antidepressant. Are you on anything for nerve pain? I am taking 600mg of Lyrica and that helped quickly to relieve some of the worst pain. My doctor started me at 75mg and went up. I also just wrote about my doctor prescribing prednisone for inflammation. I have had quite a bit of relief in the last few days from that. I haven't been able to use any of the steroid creams or anything else directly on my skin, not even the Lidocane. My skin seems to react to it all and get worse. So we are trying to treat the inflammation from the inside out. I am having some success. I also am taking Vicodine for pain, but I haven't had to use as much. I am the person having the nerve block on the 6th. I will let you know what the results are immediately. I think some sort of antidepressant helps just to get the strength to deal with it all. I understand completely. I haven't been able to walk or do anything. The prednisone has decreased the inflammation enough so that I am feeling some better. But all the other meds (like LYrica) have all helped in some way too. Dee suggested the Estrodiol. I am going to call my doctor tomorrow and see if she thinks I should start that now. Maybe it is a series of " things " that continue to heal? Hang in there. I understand. Judy > > Has anyone tried effexor for vulvodynia? Guest guest
Yes, I have used effexor with mixed results. It is a " nerve pill " and as such it works very slowly. Also, nerve pills don't help everyone. Other nerve pills that can help are: Amitriptyline and neurontin. However, if you are having a bad day and crying, what you really need is Vicodin or " Oxycodone " . Vicodin is purely for pain relief and it works immediately. > > Has anyone tried effexor for vulvodynia? Guest guest
Jenn, I agree with here about the using something like Vicodin. When I first started out with vulvodynia I lived on Vicodin for nearly 4 years. I am back on Vicodin now but mostly for other chronic pain issues but it does still help some of my vulvodynia. May I ask what else you have tried so far? You may e-mail or IM me off list any time if you prefer. Kristy

Guest guest
I am so sorry Jen – I have a frozen ice bottle between my legs as I type, so I know what you are going through. I have not tried Effexor because I have read many bad reports about it, there are many bad side effects, and also it takes a long time to get off of it. I would read up on it before you try. Have you thought about Botox? I have heard good results from those injections all around the vaginal area. I am going to try that if I can get my insurance company to pay for it. nne From: VulvarDisorders [mailto:VulvarDisorders ] On Behalf Of jen9952 Sent: Monday, May 26, 2008 8:13 PM To: VulvarDisorders Subject: Effexor for vulvodynia Has anyone tried effexor for vulvodynia? Guest guest
Oxycodone does not work that well – I take it. Percocet is what they give me before they give the injections at my pain clinic, and it seems to work faster. Neurontin does not help me at all. It really depends – it is give it a try for all these different medications and see what works for you. nne From: VulvarDisorders [mailto:VulvarDisorders ] On Behalf Of Mace Sent: Monday, May 26, 2008 9:11 PM To: VulvarDisorders Subject: Re: Effexor for vulvodynia Yes, I have used effexor with mixed results.
