Guest guest
Sorry, I haven't been posting as much! I've been doing pretty well, overall. My liver numbers continue to come back perfect every time they are checked, and I'm still feeling good. That is, I'm feeling good except for having reinjured my chest in the same place I hurt it early this spring. I thought I might have cracked a rib... I can't take a deep breath or lie down without it hurting like crazy. The worst thing is that I can't swim with it this way (you kind of have to take deep breaths to swim!), so I may not be able to do the triathlon I've been training for. Hopefully I'll heal up quickly... it is feeling significantly better than it was a few days ago. I've also nearly finished that tiling project I was talking about just after my transplant. I'm just finish up the grout. It was a pretty big job... a 15'x20' room with some rather intricate cutting (it's amazing how much longer it takes to make a cut when your margin of error is less that 1/16th inch, than when you are making a cut that will be hidden by baseboard and your margin of error is 1/2 " !). Maybe I'll have to post a picture of it when it's finished. I've been getting more done on it now that the kids are in school! When I saw my family doctor for this chest injury, he also tested my bone density (osteopenia, but not osteoporosis) and prescribed Boniva for it. It's a medicine that you take once a month. I checked with the transplant people and they seemed to think that it was OK to take it. So far I haven't taken the first dose though. I'll have to admit I was wanting to wait a bit longer and give the vitamin D, calcium, and exercise a chance to work and see how much I could do with them before I started drugs. After all it's only been a couple months since I've been off prednisone AND had a working liver! Anyone here been on Boniva, or know anything about it's pros and cons? I don't remember if I mentioned, but I decided not to have my cataracts out yet. I got new glasses, and they have helped a lot. I think my vision troubles had a lot more to do with the change in my prescription since my last eye exam than they did with cataracts! Barb, you also asked if I had memory lapses, and I don't remember having any. Of course I wouldn't remember them though! Seriously, I don't think I've had any like what you describe, although I may have had some very small ones. For instance I'm usually very good at remembering where I parked the car... when I walk out of the store, I just remember what it looked like when I was walking in, and work out where I must have parked. But recently I've sometimes had trouble remembering... like there's a blank in my memory. It may be that I'm too busy thinking about other things to notice what I'm doing... I do seem to have more mental energy recently. So I guess that's how I'm doing! I'm sure I've left stuff out, but I've gotta make breakfast for everyone! athan
Guest guest
> Please give us an update ... Eight weeks out from transplant #3 as of 9/1/07. I am feeling fine, getting compliments on my return to a normal complexion and doing pretty much whatever I feel like doing. I got back yesterday from a week long visit with family and friends in upstate NY and northern VT, during the trip I did most of the driving. Any concern with tenderness due to rough roads or bumps are behind me now. There is still a small section of the incision where the horizontal and vertical cuts intersect that has not knit together completely. That is the only problem left from the surgery. At my last clinic visit on 8/27 there was concern because my last 2 blood test had a rise in AST and ALT after dropping well into the normal range. Because of that the prednisone taper was halted for a week and i remained on 10mg prograf bid, 1000mg cellcept bid and 15mg prednisone. This week I will be having some testing to see what is going on, especially if my blood test tomorrow continues the upward trend.
