Hi there, we currently have two polls running on Vestibulectomies...I think they will offer you some good info. I sent your email to someone who has had a vestibulectomy yrs. ago...and she still hangs around to possibly help newbies facing the surgery. If anyone who has had the surgery could help, please reply to the above post....Thanks so much,ChellePS - You can find the polls on our homepage: just scroll to the bottom of this email and

I am sorry that you have this disorder and have to

have a vestibulectomy. The good news is - afterwards

you will feel a lot better, and the recover is not so

bad and worth it for the amount of pain relief you are

likely to get. I had one two summers ago. I was out of

work for a week. Days 2-4 were the worst, at the

height of swelling. Take the painkillers and stay in

bed and the pain is manageable. I was able to walk

around and sit, tenderly, but was much more

comfortable lying in bed with my legs spread. The

painkillers are VERY constipating, and this is not a

time you want to be straining. Take either laxatives

or fiber, preferably both just to be sure. The

painkillers also made me woozy, but as long as I was

laying down I didn't feel too bad. I watched alot of

movies, read some books, and knit a blanket for my

baby nephew. The painkillers also made me sleep odd

hours. I would sometimes bleed if a stitch pulled at

me the wrong way. It seemed like a lot of blood but

would also be over in an 1/2 hour or so.

Seven days after the surgery I went back to work. The

area was still quite tender, but I could walk, drive

and sit without too much trouble. To be quite honest,

I didn't feel completely healed from the surgeyr for

about 3 months. Weeks 6-8, the stitches were beginning

to dissolve. There is a lot of itching as everything

heals, sit in the bathtub a couple of times a dya and

it's not to bad. 3 months out, the healing was

complete. Though it took awhile, it was absolutely

worth it. I had extreme, constant pain before the

surgery. It didn't make the pain go away 100%, but it

was considerable relief.

If you have any specific questions, I am more than

happy to answer them. Please email me at my office

rcoons@... for a more timely answer (i only

check this email every couple of days.)
