Guest guest
So i'm at my wits end because i'm not sure what i should do for the constant itching of my vagina. I've dealt with it for years even before i noticed the vestibulitis. I don't have a yeast infection at the moment (not to my knowledge) or BV, i've been tested for several things. My gyno says the health of my skin looks just fine. At the moment i'm taking doxepin at night to break the itch scratch cycle and applying hydrocortison cream which seemed to be working but lately it hasn't. Also, This happens every so often for me i don't know if they are infected hair follicles or what...the doctors never really paid much significance to them..but i get pimple like bumps on the vagina, they can either be in between the lips or on the external surface. They usually hurt when they're coming in and then end up being itchy/painful. Eventually they'll fill with pus, just like a pimple would. I know it's not an STD, i've never even had intercourse and i've been very very careful. It happens off and on, a lot of times it happens more when my period is about to start, but i'm not sure WHAT causes it or what to do about it. Right now i have a few and it's made sitting and wearing underwear very uncomfortable. Anyone else deal with this? Also any recommendations for soothing horribly itchy skin so i can actually get through the day without clawing at myself? I'm so sick of being itchy. Not only does my vagina constantly itch, my scalp constantly itches too (not sure if they are related at all) and when i'm trying to sleep other parts of my body will sometimes itch as well. *sigh*
Guest guest
Hello, Sorry you are dealing with so much itching! I'm not sure about the vaginal pimples but there are much stronger topical steriods you can use for the itch. The most commonly super potent one is clobetesol. For me it stopped the itch but because I was itching in and around the vagina, applying it to the mucosal tissue gave me systemic effects of steroid use - I'm very sensitive to it though. Definitely ask your doc for something stronger! And, if you do use a stronger steriod, be advised that it can thin the skin so much very quickly that it tears very easily - mine tore sliding off the bed. Do you have psoriasis or allergies or anything like that that may be causing the itching? Maybe prednisone would help depending on what's causing it? > > So i'm at my wits end because i'm not sure what i should do for the > constant itching of my vagina. Guest guest
hi there, I think that the 'pimples' you are getting are probably cysts. (which are glorified pimples) It's like getting pimples on a deeper skin level, that eventually fill with pus and then pop (I know, gross - I've had them). Usually they will last for a week or two. It may help to use a warm washcloth or take hot baths to speed up the process.nicoleTo: VulvarDisorders From: snailsgal@...Date: Sat, 31 May 2008 00:39:29 +0000Subject: Re: Itchy flare up and pimples on vagina? Guest guest
I forgot to mention 2 things: Cysts may be indicative of bacterial infection, and also that if they get really bad (big or painful), a dermatologist can drain them. nicoleTo: vulvardisorders From: caterpillar7@...Date: Fri, 30 May 2008 20:46:55 -0400Subject: RE: Re: Itchy flare up and pimples on vagina? hi there, I think that the 'pimples' you are getting are probably cysts. Guest guest
I got pimples on my vulva after using steroid cream. I think it's called folliculitis. It took a couple months to go away (they kept coming back). > > So i'm at my wits end because i'm not sure what i should do for the > constant itching of my vagina. Guest guest
I get the pimples too. And according to my doctor, they litterally are just that -- pimples, just like the acne you get anywhere else. And just like them, these pimples are caused by pores getting clogged when you sweat. Unfortunately, the doctor said the only thing I can do for them is apply a warm wet wash cloth when they are particularly bad. If you find something else that works and doesn't irritate, let me know? And, since someone else mentioned cysts, I will say that my doctor said they're not cysts. They look very similar and can occur in the same areas, but one is a hard mass while the other is fluid filled. ~~
Guest guest
Years ago I had a terrible itch on the vulva and I might have had a rash (can't remember) but the doctor tried a number of treatments such as antihistamines, creams, etc. One gyn told me some women were "just itchy- no problem" Finally a gyn took a biopsy and I had embedded yeast. I think I was treated w/Nystatin tablets and it went completely away. It was hard getting the diagnosis but w/treatment it responds. Just a thought. Guest guest
Starrydust, Have you ever been to a dermatologist for your vulvar symptoms? The NVA 'might' have one listed in or around your area that you could see. You could even call around & ask some local derms in your area if they can diagnose problem skin of the vulva. Itching can be a sign of Lichen Sclerosis. You mentioned an itchy scalp, too, maybe you have eczema or some kind of dermatitis. Steroid creams can be good for itching, especially LS and LP, but they can thin the skin and cause problems too. Many on the group who use a steroid cream also use topical Estradiol (estrogen) cream to help the skin keeps its elasticity.Low hormones or blocked estrogen receptors in the vulvar skin due to birth control pill use could cause itching. As for STD's, have you actually been checked? You do not have to have intercourse to contract some of them. Hand or mouth to genital contact can spread some of them, too. Have you tried an oral antihistamine for the itching? I hope you find relief soon. Hang in there.... ~Chellestarrydust182 wrote: So i'm at my wits end because i'm not sure what i should do for theconstant itching of my vagina.
