Sigh. Got back labs for both kids today. Gabi's still going strong with her dx (TPO antibodies high)and her TSH is almost indetectable (meaning her thyroid is going berzerk)AND my son now is making antibodies to his thyroid. WTF.

I thought we were two steps forward one step back but now it feels like one step forward two steps back !!!!!!!!!I don't know that there is anything that can be done. Anyone else out there going thru this?

Sorry to jump in...my son's DAN just told us last week his thyroid is going

crazy-pointing to Hashimotos. Can anyone recommend reading on this? So far, he

wants him to start a half tab of Iodorall (in addition to everything else he

takes). Anyone have any experience with that? Amie

Yes, pretty sure my son has this disease as well. Took him to a pediatric

endocrinologist who was not much help. She only tested for his TH4 when the TH3

should also really be monitored as well. I had been giving my son seaweed broth

but she was concerned about this as it's hard to monitor how much iodine he was

getting and did not want to give him too much which is also a problem, so I

stopped. He is now on Armour Thyroid, not sure if it's helping yet or not as he

needs to be on it for many months before retesting. My thyroid is also very off

and I have Lyme which is probably causing it and possibly this could be the

source of my son's trouble as well. Lyme has a way of doing that to the

thyroid.

Well spoke to the DAN... he says the values are so funky that he doesn't trust them and wants the kids re-tested. I mean, theirTSH levels were .01 which might have been believable for Gabi whose TSH previously was 1.x but my son's TSH last time was 3.0

Iodine is kinda controversial in AT and I don't think it would be good for Graves but I don't know. :-\If it were me, I'd be completely willing to give it a shot but scared with the kiddos.

my son had all the symptoms of hyperthyroidism...i never got him tested as i cant bring myself to stick him after all the trauma he went thru when he was hospitalized a few years back.

anyways i diagnose my own kid thru symptoms only so he had all symptoms of hyperthyriod...ran very hot all the time...hyper all the time..skinny rapid heart rate....well he didnt have hypo thyroid i was pretty sure of that and i been givin him lugols iodine for last almost year....and no more really hot kick off covers at night...and rapid heart rate went down....i wish i did have a test to actually see whats goin on...but i feel it helped his symptoms of hyperthyriod....there is a book on iodine wish i remembered name..i was on iodine group for a while...trick is to make sure you give it with selenium....and they siad celtic salt and zinc...they called it companion nutrients on the iodine group but i just give iodine with selenium and copper as my kid cant do zinc. at all.

oh yah copper spose to help slow down thyriod zinc speeds up.

cant swear by any of this but just my experience with my son

channa

Hey Toni,I have been meaning to reply to you on this. What is the controversy with iodine and thyroid (in a nutshell?)? I read something about iodine, thyroid and mercury/metals chelation awhile back so if i can find it i will send it on....We just started an iodine transdermal bc we are all apparently deficient. We rub it on our tummies and if it is gone within 12hrs we put on one more spot (max 2 in 24hrs). I have hypothyroid and have read it could be related to mercury sitting in the thyroid glands. My son was also leaning toward hypothyroid in the Spring but then it when back down to normal this summer (i had added in iodized salt so thought it could be bc of this but we also were doing alot of other things too). We are about to have our

TSHs tested again (pretty worried)....but i am wondering if the up and downs of the thyroid levels could be related to detoxing, ie. metals coming out of some organs and getting into the thyroid???....I am developed hypothyroidism after getting lots of shots to work overseas so I definitely think there is a connection there...on another group, one woman was linking Heb B shot to thyroid issues...that would make sense for me bc. i had to have it a couple times.... I think it's only a big deal if you are hyperthyroid and/or creating antibodies.I am not really well-versed on this subject. I just know that the iodine " freaks " (I mean that in a nice way :-) )promote it and that the mainstream people say NO for hyperthyroid.

They discuss a little about iodine treatment on page 361. I've just started reading it, but figured I'd pass it along before I get lost in it and forget. -Tammy To: mb12valtrex Sent: Tuesday, December 13, 2011 10:57 PM Subject: Re: pediatric graves disease or autoimmune thyroiditis
