"Real Housewives" star Salahi has multiple sclerosis

By Zorianna Kit Zorianna Kit – Wed Sep 15, 2:51 pm ET

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Reality TV star e Salahi -- one of the "Real Housewives of D.C." -- on Wednesday denied she had an eating disorder but said she had multiple sclerosis.

Salahi, who famously gate crashed a state dinner at the White House last year, told Fox News in a television interview she had been fighting the disease for 17 years, causing her to often look thin and frail.

Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease that causes a loss of muscle coordination, vision and speech problems among others thing.

Salahi's decision to reveal the information follows weeks of barbed comments by her fellow "Real Housewives" that she has an eating disorder and needs an intervention.

"I'm not an anorexic and I've never had an eating disorder," Salahi said, adding that she had kept her condition a secret because "I never wanted to be judged, never wanted to have pity, and I certainly wanted to hold on to my job."

Salahi appeared on Fox News with her polo-playing husband Tareq to promote a book about the couple, titled: "Cirque Du Salahi: Be Careful Who You Trust". The book is written by journalist Diane Dimond.

"The Real Housewives of D.C" is the fifth in the popular Bravo reality franchise that features the lives and interactions of socialite women in cities as diverse as New York, Orange County, California, Atlanta and New Jersey.

The Salahi's gate crashing incident at the White House became headline news last November and is one of the running themes of the "Real Housewives of D.C." show.

*cough* *Cough* BULLSH*t!!Yes MS is an invisible disease at first, but I've yet to meet ANYONE 17 years after diagnosis with no visible symptoms. And even if we give her the benefit of the doubt, weight loss is certainly a new symptom in my books!

I smell a red herring.www.laurabeaudin.com --NOT just another blog!http://practical-homeschooling.org

Interesting, Anne. So let me get this straight though... fighting the disease for 17 years has made her "thin and frail" looking??? Unfortunately, fighting MS hasn't helped ME look thin and frail. roflmhoI am sorry to hear that anyone has MS but I had to poke a little fun at her statement:) SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. Here's part of the Fox.news interview with her.

A spokesperson from the National MS Society told FoxNews.com that "weight loss is not a typical symptom of MS. However there are other factors that do influence appetite, like medication, fatigue and difficulty swallowing can affect weight loss, but it is not a typical symptom. Typical symptoms are numbness, tingling, pain and

difficulty speaking.â€

According to the MS Society, while MS is a very "individualized disease" wherein "one treatment does not fit all," obesity is more of a problem than weight loss.

"You see people with MS who are obese," the spokesperson said. "That is a big problem for people with MS, struggling to keep weight down.â€

"If [salahi] says she does have difficulty with appetite, we can’t say she doesn’t, but she needs to see a doctor,†the spokesperson added.

Hugs and Love, Jackie

May the peace of God be with you...the love of Jesus enfold you...and the Spirit of Christ fill you.

http://askmissa.com/2010/09/17/michaele-salahi-and-the-art-of-the-con-ms-edition/ I can't believe I've been reading bunches of news on this. But here's the interview verbatim.

Interesting that her claim to MS comes out at the time of her new show and the release of their book. Now that part really makes me wonder because I've always thought of Diane Diamond (writer of the biog) as an honest reporter.

And about the thiness, my MS started in 1979 with that one big bang of an episode and I remained in a battle to get to 100 lbs (yes I ate lots!) til somewhere in the 90's ... hormones, menopause and divorce changed that! So an MSer can definitely look like a rail.

I can't stand the woman but I don't wish MS on her or anyone. However if she is, I say shame on her cause it almost seems like she's using it to advance her "career' ... hugs, Cait
