My 6 yr is stimming alot more at school. He really doesnt do this behavior at

home. I have him at a sensory clinic but it seems to only be more benefical at

home than in school. He spends half the day in the Kindergarten room and the

second half in the special ed room. He only stims in the kindergarten room. The

stimming they see is

*deep pressure seeking

*rocking back and forth

*ear covering

*chewing on his shirt

*loud groans

* touching other kids

*not walking but galloping

*toe walking

*etc.

He is in school from 820 until 330pm.....Once home he is alot more calmner and

as the day turns to night he is very calm. Any thoughts...we have a neurology

appt next week...I am at my wits end....We have done every protocol and this one

thing never goes away

thanks in advance

We went through the same exact thing with my son. I think alot of it was stress-induced. Also, at home, they're not often forced to sit and focus on things they might not otherwise be interested in.He teachers would report humming and stimming and I honest to God thought they were losing their marbles because we never saw those particular things at home. What's interesting is that the TYPE of stimming he did at home, he never did at school and vice-versa. Go figure. With my guy, he NEVER sat to do anything except eat. He plays, watches tv, plays video and computer games standing up. So at school (where he was forced to sit), they would see alot more stimming. We homeschool now and he will sit now to do his work. From time to

time, his leg will start going a hundred miles an hour but if he stands, it stops. He used to gnaw his pencils, the back of his seat and the collars and cuffs of his shirts to shreds. Mineral supplementation along with a stress free learning environment has made it all disappear. You could try a weighted vest, chew bracelets, necklaces (we just let our son chew gum), or give him something to hold in his hand to squeeze and roll between his fingers. But it seems to me like the busy-ness of the K classroom might be more than he can tolerate. Does he have picture cues at his desk so he knows the daily schedule? That usually helps ALOT. How are the kids that sit closest to him? Are they distracting or quiet? Also, if there's less structure and more spontaneity in the class, that could throw him wayyyy off. If you google and read

up on what takes place physiologically when a person is under stress, his behaviors at school will not surprise you one bit. People don't give enough consideration to the power it can have over our bodies. If you met my son today, you would never guess he has a pdd diagnosis - until he is stressed. Then all his symptoms come rolling in like a massive tidal wave. It's crazy. Bringing my guy home to be educated was our single best intervention yet. -Tammy To: mb12valtrex Sent: Wednesday, December 7, 2011 2:11 PM Subject: Stimming happens only in school

For my son these behaviors were parasites and stimulated by flourescent lights

or the full moon. But most parents will probably say yeast. For us, the

parasites stimulated by fluorescents were Protozoa and responded well to Mepron

or alinia.

Also, are you sure they aren't feeding him?

Oh, no. This is physical.

If you are GF/CF, he may be getting snacks that he shouldn't have.

Sounds like he has to have a BM. We love Miracle Fiber from Vitamin Shoppe.

Caryn- I was going to suggest the flourescent lights as the source as well. How can they effect the parasites? How long did you have to treat the parasites to eliminate them completely? To: mb12valtrex Sent: Wednesday, December 7, 2011 1:55 PM Subject: Re: Stimming happens only in school

We have been treating parasites for years have have not gotten rid of them yet.

Just like yeast, once you have it and are immuno compromised you have to control

them always. We have used artemisiae and also a battery of rx drugs in a

railroad fashion: mepron, alinia, ivermectin, albenza,

mebndazole, bilcitride, and maybe even a few others.

Stimming is a response to anxiety. And that anxiety can come from anything happening that is not typical in the home environment, and for him also what is in the regular class and not thesped classroom. Are there just more kids? Is it maybe just that the regular classroom kids are more

chatty and he has more anxiety over being around them and not being able to communicate as well with them? Ear covering... my daughter does this some, regardless of yeast, but is having a yeast flare currently and it is worse... anyway, that sound sensitivity

may also indicate too many people/too loud.
