She is presenting me to the tx team tomorrow. Why is it that I've had this disease so long, gone through the workup and now she says this and I start shaking and weepy. Very strange. Maybe it is just making it all real that this is finally happening. Just wondering if this has happened to others. Barby-May you be blessed with Peace & comfort. When we finally were told that my Brother would be evaluated we were very nervous. Then when he was listed a sigh of relief-that was short lived, now we are on a constant highten phone awareness with paranoia (of course my mother and her ever present " mothers intution " doesn't help the situation).

I hope you are listed and you have a short wait with a successful outcome! in TexasBrother, , 31, UC & PSCOn 9/4/07,

Barby, Yes, it has happened to me. I guess you know

you have a disease and you will need this transplant,

but, as long as you are not on the list, it is easy to

also think of it as 'non-real " . I took it hard when I

got listed.

Barby, I understand exactly how you feel, but my workup began in the

very beginning because of all of the damage from the ERCPs. It is

scary business and for older people like me (be gentle all you

youngsters), transplantation still seems a bit like science fiction.

But .... you have to admit that being listed is the best insurance you

can have -- even if you (like me) don't need to use it!

Barby,

Sending you positive energy and prayers as you go through the waiting

I'll be thinking of you often! I'm so glad you are keeping us

posted. I am currently undergoing the evaluation process and just

got out of the hospital today after an ERCP on Friday. My CBD got

perforated and they only needed to stent it (no surgery). When I

get on the list, I will be nervous - terrified to say the least. I

get nervous with ERCPs!

We will all keep our fingers crossed you get a new liver soon

and a new and improved life!

Hugs to all,

Liz Macchio, PSC '04

Hi Barby,

Sorry I haven't written sooner. Boy how I wish you could of been with

Ken & I today! During the support group, you'd think everyone would

be talking about problems they were having or issues they were dealing

with, but you'd be wrong. The group today had 6 or more liver tx

patients & their caretakers. The " real " problems have almost totally

disappeared and in their place we discussed ( & laughed) about food,

pets, Twice Blessed House (Ken " joked about how small the apartment is

and the wonders of " living with his mom " ), wound care and " transplant

terms " (no one likes the word " caretaker " .) The difference I saw in

these people over the last 2-3 weeks was nothing short of amazing!

In liver clinic the same people, plus maybe 10 more patients were all

talking & laughing - we all know each other by now and usually have a

" party " while waiting our turn. We noticed a man & his wife sitting

quite taking everything in. They finally said they were there doing

his evaluation. We started introducing each other and reporting how

far out we were from transplant. The man couldn't believe it -

everyone looked so good! And it's 100% true! Even Ken, who has been

through the ringer - if you saw him now - you'd never believe how sick

he was or how close to death he came. Coming up with a word that

conveys this transformation is impossible - you just have to see it

for yourself.

Please, don't worry, you'll do fine. I know it's scary, but honest,

you'll be OK. You've already been through several surgeries, so you

know what to expect, this surgery won't be any different. In 6 -8

weeks, you'll be back to holding the granddaughter and walking the

dogs. I promise. Best of luck to you, you'll be in our prayers.

Please be sure someone keeps us updated on how you're doing.

Remember, we're here for you... Together In The Fight - Whatever It

Takes!

With love, Barb in Texas
