Guest guest
Hello, the recent study on high amounts of arsenic in rice came just as my kids hair tests came back as in the 95-98% for arsenic. While they don't eat rice, i'm looking for the other possible sources of contamination. I looked in the archives and didn't see a compile on common arsenic sources. My daughter (4) is NT and my son (5) is ASD. My son is on SCD and we try to follow Feingold so he only eats meat protein (a lot of chicken), fruits, veggies, some nuts, and a few beans. My daughter is GF and eats a lot of fruit, veggies, some rice and meat protein. I'm testing the soil at our house, especially around the play structure. As i understand it, lumber treated before 2003 contained arsenic. Our house is 100 years old and in seattle. There was a smelter about 45 miles south of our home that closed about 20 years ago. any ideas on where to look for aresenic around our home? thanks, mardi
Guest guest
Mardi, Hello neighbor, I'm about 10 miles (right across the bay) from where the smelter was ( Although I do not have an " official " report, I did quite a bit of research on toxic metals about 5 years ago as I was trying to understand my sons issues...Mercury is his #1 toxic metal followed closely by Arsenic then Lead ( 's DD Hair Elements the last few years have had both Mercury & Arsenic in the yellow....2009 Arsenic was @ .097, 2010 was @ .077, 2011 was @ .081...all in the yellow. The good news for us is @ least he's excreting it now & he's finally out of the 7 year battle of mineral derrangement from the toxic metals w/the BioMedical interventions that we've done....we're not out of the woods yet, but @ least starting to see the light. Below is some of my Notes that I took while researching Toxic Metals Sources & Symptoms. Here's the Arsenic Notes (I have Notes on many of the other toxic metals as well as I followed the symptoms when I was chelating...I got to where I could peg pretty well what the UTI was going to look like just based on symptoms/behaviors.... Hope This Helps: Arsenic: Sources: Drinking water, insecticide residues on fruits & vegetables, auto exhaust and industrial pollution, treated lumber. Symptoms: Headaches, drowsiness, confusion, weakness, or skin problems. Arsenic Notes (copied from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arsenic ) • Other naturally occurring pathways of exposure include volcanic ash, weathering of arsenic-containing minerals and ores, and dissolved in groundwater. • The arsenic is recovered mainly as a side product from the purification of copper. Arsenic is part of the smelter dust from copper, gold, and lead smelters. • The toxicity of arsenic to insects, bacteria and fungi led to its use as a wood preservative • Agricultural insecticides, termination and poisons. For example, lead hydrogen arsenate was a common insecticide on fruit trees. • Arsenic is still added to animal food, in particular in the U.S. as a method of disease prevention[35][36] and growth stimulation. One example is roxarsone, which is used as a broiler starter by about 70% of the broiler growers since 1995.[37] The Poison-Free Poultry Act of 2009 proposes to ban the use of roxarsone in industrial swine and poultry production. • Medical use: Arsphenamine as well as neosalvarsan was indicated for syphilis and trypanosomiasis. Treatment of cancer. The US Food and Drug Administration in 2000 approved this compound for the treatment of patients with acute promyelocytic leukemia that is resistant to ATRA.[39] It was also used as Fowler's solution in psoriasis.[40] Recently new research has been done in locating tumours using arsenic-74 (a positron emitter). The advantages of using this isotope instead of the previously used iodine-124 is that the signal in the PET scan is clearer as the body tends to transport iodine to the thyroid gland producing a lot of noise.[41] • The main use of metallic arsenic is for alloying with copper and especially lead. Lead components in car batteries • Gallium arsenide is an important semiconductor material, used in integrated circuits. • Arsenic is added in small quantities to alpha-brass to make it dezincification resistant. This grade of brass is used to make plumbing fittings or other items that are in constant contact with water. • Until recently arsenic was used in optical glass. Modern glass manufacturers, under pressure from environmentalists, have removed it, along with lead. Many water supplies close to mines are contaminated by these poisons. Arsenic disrupts ATP production through several mechanisms. At the level of the citric acid cycle, arsenic inhibits lipoic acid, which is a cofactor for pyruvate dehydrogenase; and by competing with phosphate it uncouples oxidative phosphorylation, thus inhibiting energy-linked reduction of NAD+, mitochondrial respiration and ATP synthesis. Occupational exposure and arsenic poisoning may occur in persons working in industries involving the use of inorganic arsenic and its compounds, such as wood preservation, glass production, nonferrous metal alloys, and electronic semiconductor manufacturing. Inorganic arsenic is also found in coke oven emissions associated with the smelter industry. The high affinity of arsenic(III) oxides for thiols is usually assigned as the cause of the high toxicity. Thiols, in the form of cysteine residues, are situated at the active sites of many important enzymes. Copied From Doctor's Data Hair Test Report: Arsenic High In general, hair provides a rough estimate of exposure to Arsenic (As) absorbed from food and water. However, hair can be contaminated externally with As from air, water, dust, shampoos and soap. Inorganic As, and some organic As compounds, can be associated with toxicity. Inorganic As accumulates in hair, nails, skin, thyroid gland, bone and the gastrointestinal tract. Organic As, such as that derived from shellfish, is rapidly excreted in the urine. As can cause malaise, muscle weakness, vomiting, diarrhea, dermatitis, and skin cancer. Long-term exposure may affect the peripheral nervous, cardiovascular and hematopoietic systems. As is a major biological antagonist to selenium. Common sources of As are insecticides (calcium and lead arsenate), drinking water, smog, shellfish (arsenobetaine), and industrial exposure, particularly in the manufacture of electronic components (gallium arsenide). Guest guest
I also learned somewhere (don't know if it is a fact) that chickens are fed arsenic so they eat and drink more and fatten faster - organic meat is the way to go if you can afford it. - Ellie
Guest guest
well...hate to bring bad news ..but i was told by a reputable person...who actually went thru the troubel of having organic chicken tested....some organics also have arsenic in their chicken....i dont know if all do but there are some that were tested with the crap in it. best way is to find the local farmer that raises chicken...and talk to the farmer themselves...i find mass production organic foods are as deceptive as the rest of them.. you know fat chicken equals money....I have also heard there are short cuts around organic guidlines...and not all organic farmers play fair. yes the world sucks. channa To: mb12valtrex Sent: Friday, December 9, 2011 6:09 PMSubject: Re: is there a compile on arsenic sources I also learned somewhere (don't know if it is a fact) that chickens are fed arsenic so they eat and drink more and fatten faster - organic meat is the way to go if you can afford it. - Ellie

Guest guest
I'm not disputing that organic chicken may have arsenic in it as well, but wondering the source of it. We are saying their feed is laced with it,and in some cases yes due to someone personally adding it in there... but all kinds of contaminants get into the soil of the food we grow andare coming from the polluted air and water. So the food could be contaminatedbefore it even makes it to the processor/distributor of the food. I am not sure there is a " pure " thing to consume on this planet, even if you knowthe guy who grew the feed and the guy who grew the chicken.Just like with the apple juice... we don't know if the source of the apples is the contaminator or the people processing it, or the water added, or if some jackass is purposefullyadding arsenic and lead to each bottle. Heck, maybe it leaches from the plastic/glass/bpa-linedfoil containers.I'm just saying we can't get too nutty about the purity of stuff or we will do just that - go crazy. well...hate to bring bad news ..but i was told by a reputable person...who actually went thru the troubel of having organic chicken tested....some organics also have arsenic in their chicken....i dont know if all do but there are some that were tested with the crap in it. best way is to find the local farmer that raises chicken...and talk to the farmer themselves...i find mass production organic foods are as deceptive as the rest of them.. you know fat chicken equals money....I have also heard there are short cuts around organic guidlines...and not all organic farmers play fair. yes the world sucks. channa To: mb12valtrex Sent: Friday, December 9, 2011 6:09 PM Subject: Re: is there a compile on arsenic sources I also learned somewhere (don't know if it is a fact) that chickens are fed arsenic so they eat and drink more and fatten faster - organic meat is the way to go if you can afford it. - Ellie -- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Click to find info about Vitamins and Minerals:http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=10150543521682565 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Click to find links to info about the Low Oxalate Diet :http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=10150543495292565 ------Toni------Mind like a steel trap...Rusty and illegal in 37 states. Guest guest
Check out Applegate Organics meats. I have been trying to find local farmed organic meat too (very difficult)....I spoke with one local farmer who said his pork and beef were grassfed, no pesticides sprayed but the feed was not organic. Applegate Organics advertises that they are organic and use organic feed for the animals...this should mean no pesticides (ie no arsenic) and no GMO (although their site doesn't specifically address these two issues)....I can find their products at our local Whole Foods but they are expensive To: "mb12valtrex " <mb12valtrex > Sent: Saturday, December 10, 2011 9:16 PM Subject: Re: Re: is there a compile on arsenic sources my son is allergic to beef their is ton of grassfed beef in the area I live....would be perfect.. it just sucks...im so over all of it...I need to find my happy place again...cant find my happy place... happy place where are thou? dang it toni I cant find my happy place???
