Guest guest
Does anyone know if it's ok to see a doctor when you have your period? I have waiting MONTHS to see the doctor at Stanford University who specializes in vulvar disorders. I just started my period and my appointment is in two days. I don't want to cancel the appointment because I would have to wait another 3 months to see the doctor, and this is the only specialist in my area. I know it seems really gross to see a doctor when you're bleeding but maybe they are used to it...does anyone know if this is ok? Will the doctor be grossed out? Will she refuse to examine me? I am going to be seen for vestibulitis so I'm assuming she can still do the horrible Q-tip test and doesn't really need to examine the inside of me. Anyone have any ideas about this, is it ok for me to keep the appointment?
Guest guest
I've had a few exams while I'm on my period. If I were you I would definitely go and feign ignorance. You've waited too long for this appointment! Lindsey
Guest guest
My mom is an ob/gyn nurse practitioner and she's always told me that she's completely used to it and not bothered at all by women on their period. She recommends calling to make sure the blood wouldn't interfere with any of the procedures the doctor was planning, but if you are going to a specialist & know what you're going in for, you should be fine either way. Hope that helps! PS Hi, I'm Adrienne, I'm a lurker, this is the first one I've felt I had any 'expertise' to share
Guest guest
HI ne. Glad you jumped in hon.. We've lots of lurkers and I hope others feel free to jump in at any time, we appreciate hearing from you, whether it's a rant or a rave or a question on anything. I never thought of even questioning it if I were bleeding, I always just juggled around it or had to cancel, (but I bled so heavily too) so now I know. *smile* thanks hon. Of course it depends too on what you're in there for, like for a clean urine catch... no way would 'that' work for that one. Guest guest
lulubuns, It should be okay to go to your dr. appt and the doctor will still do an examine. If you want to know for sure you can call and ask her nurse. Whats the name of the doctor your going to see? I saw Dr.Brodzinsky at Stanford, she specializes in VVS and I had to wait two and a half months to see her. Then I saw her for a follow-up visit this year on Jan. 24th. ** seeing a doctor during your period? Does anyone know if it's ok to see a doctor when you have your period? Guest guest
I'd call before you go and ask to speak to a nurse. If you can, keep the appointment. But let the nurse and the doctor know before they do anything that you have your period, but you wanted to come in anyway, because of the vulvar pain. Some doctors will still do a full exam, others will do certain parts but not others, and others just won't do it. If you find yourself in the last category, and you've explained your situation to the nurse, they may have more authority to reschedule you sooner. Otherwise, at least you'll have been seen and know *something* even if you have to come back again. Goodluck! ~~ seeing a doctor during your period? Guest guest
Yes I'm seeing Dr. Brodzinsky. I think I actually found out about her from one of your posts a while back, so thanks for that! > > > ????? lulubuns, > It should be okay to go to your dr. appt and the doctor will still do an examine.
