Guest guest
Note: In Florida, 40 % of individuals w/ ID/DD who have been deemed "eligible" for services through the medwaiver are receiving zero supports and zero services ........ more than 20,000 individuals waiting, and aging, and waiting some more. Other States are stepping up. While some might say $28 million is a drop in the bucket compared to the need, it is estimated that approximately 1500 individuals will move from waiting to services. For those 1500, their lives will be saved. http://campaign.r20.constantcontact.com/render?llr=ukqdkwbab & v=0013fJXCVJ8X4F6FMERy5vic8XCT3w3SRJKFRnPHMWZYkTzNXjsaAZ3BMH_aob9axqqDYx9Ta3qhQtVcrOWTDtH3hqBleWsOEimzLpCWVyeg0PgDbhaKrFuwjA17fsug1aYhalbXY-P4THyr8hWFcSlnBOyLtn2RcWDLPYuE5-M59EP2XdE1WlcoNk1TTtBmP7z THE PENNSYLVANIA WAITING LIST CAMPAIGN June 2011 www.pawaitinglistcampaign.org Major Waiting List Victory in land The Arc, Empower Issue 6/Summer 2011 Congratulations to The Arc of land and all of the grassroots advocates for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities working with Chapters of The Arc to end state waiting lists for services. Thanks to their efforts, the land General Assembly recently passed an alcohol tax bill championed by the Lorraine Sheehan Alcohol Tax Coalition, a group named after a longtime advocate for individuals with disabilities and their families and a former National Board member of The Arc. Ms. Sheehan, who passed away last year, was a parent to a son with a disability and championed The Arc's movement for many years, including working on the passage of their legislation which will serve as a lasting legacy for her. The tax provides $15 million for the Developmental Disabilities Waiting List. When combined with federal matching funds, it is estimated to provide a total of $28 million for people who have been waiting for supports, sometimes for years. Kudo's to The Arc of land. The Pennsylvania Waiting List Campaign has continually suggested potential targets for sustained revenue, as recently as Marcellus Shale. We will be in touch with The Arc of land and pursue this potential source of funding with them. New jersey has also addressed their waiting list. Both these states are feeling the same type of economic pinch we are - yet, they seem to have had a will to make addressing the waiting list a priority. Pennsylvania, Governor Corbett has made the waiting list a priority. Forward email
