My specialist told me that it's fine to go to an appointment when you have your period. I wouldn't worry too much about the doctor being grossed out-- they have all seen so many things that it's no big deal. And they can do the Q-tip test when you have your period. I would definitely go, and if they need you to come back for more testing, then you go back another time. I find that getting the initial appt is the hardest, so hopefully once you've been seen it will be easier to get an appointment.
