Guest guest
Hi you two, I see a gyn at Stanford occasionally, but just for endometriosis-related care. What kind of approach does Dr. Brodzinsky use to treat vulvar pain (treatment modalities, etc.)? Thanks! Guest guest
Glomer, First, Dr.Brodzinsky gets her patients background, from the first attempt at intercourse and the first time inserting a tampon. She examines the vulva to make sure one's skin looks normal and has elasticity to it. I like her personality, a good listener, although as far as her knowledge about vulvar pain and how to treat it, I'd have to say I was disappointed. I want a specialist who see's patients day after day with this type of chronic condition but thats just how I feel. Dr.Brodzinsky is only at Stanford twice a month and only in the mornings hours, which makes me think how much experience can one really have. By all means I'm not trying to down her, I'm just stating my take on her as a specialist. ** Dr. Brodzinsky info *Lulubuns & * Hi you two, I see a gyn at Stanford occasionally, but just for endometriosis-related care. Guest guest
Do you know if there are any other specialists in the bay area (medical doctors, not physical therapists)? I hope Dr. Brodzinsky can help me, if not I don't know what to do. > > ???? Guest guest
You got me there, I too don't know of any other M.D.'s in the Bay Area who specialize in vulvar pain. Have you been diagnosed with pelvic floor dsyfunction (PFD)? If not, Dr.Brodzinsky will determine if you do have PFD and if you do, I bet she'll refer you to Fraser (Physical Therapist) in Los Altos. I see once a month and she does internal and external work which seems to be helping my PFD. She doesn't accept insurance, her first visit is $150 and all future visits are $140. ** Re: Dr. Brodzinsky info *Lulubuns & * Do you know if there are any other specialists in the bay area (medical doctors, not physical therapists)? Guest guest
Sam: I emailed you off the list For Lulubuns (and any other Bay Area members who are interested), I think it's important to remember that what--and who--works for one vulvar pain patient, won't necessarily work for another. Don't assume that just because one woman hasn't seen results with a given physician means that doctor won't be able to help you (the same goes for various treatments). It's a matter of trial and error, and, perhaps above all, matchmaking according to one's symptoms and the root(s) of one's pain. Some women will need to assemble a team of multiple practitioners to get lasting results. I, for one, have had good results (knock on wood!) working with Dr. Metzger at Harmony Women's Health, but I know she is controversial and hasn't helped some others on this board who have seen her. [i'd be happy to correspond with folks who are interested in her approach; to summarize, I think she is best-suited to helping those whose pain is part of a wider spectrum of immune dysfunction (endometriosis, IC, allergies, candida, digestive problems, chronic fatigue, etc.). If you don't fit this profile, then investing in the numerous tests she orders probably doesn't make much sense. In my case, however, her analysis of my symptoms as part of this larger, inflammatory whole makes a lot of sense and is consistent with diagnoses and test results I've received since childhood. I would venture, by contrast, that she is not ideal for folks whose pain is primarily muscular or neurological in nature--something Dr. Weiss and many PTs expertly address.] I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have more questions. Glomer > > > > ????
