Guest guest
I have a 5 year old son who is apraxic. He's been in the public school system since he was 2 1/2. We just had a recent IEP meeting back in January. I thought everything was going okay. I got home and started looking over everything and am getting very upset with alot of the goals, progress, etc. It states that he is suppost to be getting speech therapy 3 times a week and I know he is not getting this. When I confronted the SLP on it she said that she sometimes will pull him out of the classroom twice in one day, (which I think is ridiculous, he's only at school 2 1/2 hrs a day). The Special Education Coordinator from the school district set in and took notes, and looking at her notes, she wrote down, direct quote, " Won't be enough progress we expect " . So what are they going to do about it? I am so frustrated, I don't know what to do. He was on a waiting list for private speech therapy at a hospital here in town and they just called and are able to get him in starting Monday, February 27. That is very good news for us. I just feel like the system should be held more accountable. Is it too late to object to the IEP and have it reviewed and allow me a chance to state my concerns and frustrations to all of them. Half the time they make me feel like such a lousy parent with such a dumb kid. Looking back on everything I feel like they have not done what they were supposed to be doing. So maybe it's their fault that he's not making the progress.
