Guest guest
It's been a long time since I posted but I have a quick question. Does anyone know how you can discern whether or not a person has primary or secondary schlerosing cholangitis. Also, is there a real difference in the prognosis? I have been harboring the belief that this is what our son has since he seriously overexposed himself to insecticide on numerous, and may I add foolish, occasions. He was obsessed with ridding our home of wasps nests and no matter what we told him he persevered. He went through more cans of spray than I now care to think about. Any input would be appreciated. My best to all. Joan, mom of 20, psc2004-normal lfts and asymptomatic
Guest guest
I am also curious about secondary sclerosing cholangitis. My GI thinks that's what I have based on 2 facts. My colonoscopy had normal results and I had bile duct stones, which he believes caused the damage. I am not convinced, but he said my ducts, which clearly show beading, may never get worse. Unless I start experiencing PSC symptoms, I may never know. (He claims all my digestive problems are a result of not having a gallbladder, and dismissed my other complaints.) Regardless, my ducts are very narrow, and I believe alcohol could still increase risk for CCA. My doctor did not say I should not drink, only that I shouldn't get " falling down drunk. " At this point, nothing he says surprises me... Guest guest
For those interested in secondary sclerosing cholangitis and how it differs from primary scleroising cholangitis, can I recommend reading this article: Abdalian R, Heathcote EJ 2006 Sclerosing cholangitis: a focus on secondary causes. Hepatology 44: 1063-1074. I will post the full text of the article into the " files/Research " folder shortly.
