HI - I have scheduled to take my 9 yo son to a neurologist to discuss meds, etc.. Should I also be taking my son to a psychiatrist OR can the neurologist manage the majority of the needs related to Autism?

I would definitely take him to psychiatrist. I don't know Your sons needs but each different doctor Has there own protocol and you need to know all the options so u as a parent can decide what is best for your situation and not just automatically do what doctor thinks is best.Sent from my iPhone

Hi Cyndi,

We see Dr. Heidi Torocsik at the Dan Marino Center (she also has her own office in Davie now), and she manages Noah's meds and pretty much everything else. Dr. Torocsik is very knowledgeable about ASD; we've been seeing her for many years and are quite pleased with her. The only other doctor we see is Noah's regular pediatrician.

In theory the 2 should be collobarating together on the meds, but you know how that goes....

I think the psychiatrist would probably be best in the long run if there are more aggressive type of issues.
