Guest guest
My son had an ultrasound yesterday and a couple of things on it are concerning to me. His liver was 16.5 cm and is now 13 cm. His echotexture was described as 'relatively normal' and in the past was described as increased echotexture and had a starry night appearance. He has had tons of belching/burping lately, encephalopathy (more likely from d-lactic acidosis though because of his short bowel syndrome)and he is already on xifaxan, blanking out and was tested for seizures, his hands have been shaky sometimes, has been really uncoordinated off and on lately, has been really spacey-gets blank stares, got confused if it was breakfast or dinner he was eating- it was lasagna !! gets euphoric or really mean and can be unpredictable, has been alternating between jaundice and pale, has had 13 ERCPS for strictures and obstructions, had elevated LFTs for years, has been getting IV immunoglobulin for hypogamoglobinmemia (sp?), has decreased lung function and had testing for asthma and he does not have it, has had ascites in the past- doesn't now, has had low fibrinogen and haptoglobin...but...his LFT are normal except for his bili.... Is a shrinking liver- cirrhosis an end stage PSC sign ??
Guest guest
Yes, the liver gets smaller at end stage liver disease, and often the liver enzymes are normal again. What is your son's MELD score? Has he been listed for a tranplant yet? -Marie > >Reply-To: >To: >Subject: late stage PSC ? >Date: Wed, 12 Sep 2007 02:40:46 -0000 > >My son had an ultrasound yesterday and a couple of things on it are >concerning to me.
