Guest guest
> ... > What is fatty liver anyway? I need to research it. From http://www.emedicine.com/med/topic775.htm Fatty liver is the accumulation of triglycerides and other fats in the liver cells. In some patients, this may be accompanied by hepatic inflammation and liver cell death (steatohepatitis). Simple fatty liver is believed to be benign, but NASH (NonAlcoholic SteatoHepatitis) can progress to cirrhosis and can be associated with hepatocellular carcinoma. HTH Tim R - ltx #3 7/7/07, latest blood test results good enough to cancel a liver biopsy scheduled for Friday.

Guest guest
I am sorry to hear that you are a PSC pt. How old are you and when were you diagnosed? My daughter, Betsy, started with problems at age 21; she had diarrhea and elevated liver enzymes for several months before Ulcerative Colitis and PSC were found. She is actually having an MRI of her liver this morning; she takes Actigall and Asacol and for her itching, Rifampine. She sees Dr. Pratt at Massachusetts General yearly and a gastroenterologist here in Albany, New York; she has also had two children since being diagnosed with PSC..Molly, age 41/2 and , age 3. Molly was just diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes which is another auto-immune disease; she is on Insulin 4 times a day and that has been a real struggle for her parents and family---to accept and deal with this as well. I also have another grandchild, a boy, who was born in October of 2006 with a heart defect and Di Syndrome. We are a very close family and support each other in all ways possible.-----Original Message-----From: [mailto: ]On Behalf Of Arman, Shirin, Niki & MateenSent: Thursday, September 13, 2007 9:43 AMTo: Subject: Re: Re: Fatty LiverI hope my kids never get any of these... Guest guest
Sorry for the delay Armin. Yes I have PSC - I suffer from really bad itching which is how I was diagnosed in Feb 06. What I find difficult to understand is that in one breath I am told that I am in the very early stages of the disease, but when I read up on PSC itching is 'a late stage' sympton. There are so many different bits of information that things can get quite baffling at times! How about you? Kym
Guest guest
> > Does PSC cause Fatty Liver? Have any of you been told you have it? > What was it due to? > : PSC does not cause Fatty Liver; PSC is its own entity. Fatty liver is usually found in people who are obese and do not eat a balanced diet. My daughter, age 28, has UC, PSC, and Fatty Liver combination. I do not think the Fatty Liver plays a role in her PSC. She has the severe itching as well and takes Rifampine but no one has told her that she is approaching end stage PSC i.e. getting close to transplant time.... Guest guest
my itching comes and goes. I also have very dry skin so not sure if that is the cause. My biopsy takes about Fatty liver and NASH and very little infact only one sentance about PSC and all he says is "These later changes raise the possibility of large bile duct obstruction, and could be associated with the patient's history of PSC." I did a ERCP after the biospy and he did balloon the common bile duct but he said it wasn't that bad. so I don't know what is going on. I have an appointment next week to see my doctor and ask him. Just because you have itching doesn't mean you are late stage. some symptoms happen in early take and some in later. It really depends on the person, I think. The information is just confusing and even the terminology confuses me. I would write down all of your symptoms and then look at the whole thing not just one thing. Guest guest
I also want to mention that part of my biopsy showed hepatotoxicity. This was caused by my colestral medicine... Crestor... anyone else experince this? Re: Fatty Liver >> Does PSC cause Fatty Liver?
