Guest guest
Off topic or not, I'm commenting on this one, athan! Anything Irish is " on topic " (at least in my book!), with cinema being way up there near the tippy-top o' my list. ;-) I've always appreciated the massive efforts involved in filmmaking (I've a nephew in that business), & I confess to reading alllll credits (as a way to pay my respects, but now, to see my nephew's name & be the proud auntie!). Anyhoo, I just went to the " Secret of the Cave " website, & lo & behold, the name Robin popped up as " Second Second Assistant Director, " " Boom Operator " & an asterisk, denoting student status. Any relation to you, or your brother ? :-) Independent movies can be amazing, in their quiet, rich-in-character way. Most of my all-time favorite films have been Indies. You didn't mention the name of your brother's Film School... by any chance is it Watkins? I try to watch every " Irish " film I can put my hands on, so thanks for sharing w/this group, athan, -- after watching the trailer, I put it at the very top of my Netflix queue. I'm truly looking forward to seeing it! All the best to you & your family, Maureen PS - the idea of a transplant documentary sounds great, even if " the whole world " doesn't get a chance to see it... & for this post to be a bit more " on-topic, " that idea certainly goes hand-in-hand with () Redford ( Redford's son), who was himself diagnosed w/UC & , later, with PSC, then transplanted (twice!) in 1995, experiences which in turn led him to found the Redford Institute for Transplant Awareness. JRI produced an award-winning documentary " The Kindness of Strangers " in 1999 for HBO (as well as 2 others, including " Flow, " a " touching depiction of an encounter between a donor family member and a recipient, " btw). I'm sure you probably already know this, but " The Kindness of Strangers " has something very special in common with " The Secret of the Cave " ...it was ALSO the recipient of the Crystal Heart Award! Anyone interested in 's bio can go to: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0714853/bio. Additionally, JRI's website at http://www.jrifilms.org/ has a link to help " connect " people about transplantation & organ donation (http://www.jrifilms.org/connect.html) OT: Secret of the Cave: my brother's movie Hi all, I know this is completely off topic, but I just had to mention it. " Secret of the Cave " , a movie my brother co-wrote, produced, and was cinematographer for, has just come out on DVD... For more info on it you can look at www.secretofthecave.com athan

For a while there were quite a few s running around that school, since a couple other cousins were there too (although not in the film program). > You didn't mention the > name of your brother's Film School... by any chance is it Watkins? It's Southern Adventist University, here in Tennessee. It's a full (although by most standards small) University, but the art department has a film school, which my brother heads. I'll have to admit I'm awfully proud of him. He's my little brother, but he's done things I don't think I'd ever be capable of... > -- after watching the trailer, I put it at > the very top of my Netflix queue. My brother just told me that he got the first week rental figures back, and it was rented 74,000 times, which is pretty good for a movie with no advance publicity at all. > " The Kindness of Strangers " has something very > special in common with " The Secret of the Cave " ...it was ALSO the recipient of the Crystal Heart Award! I didn't know that! I'll have to mention it to my brother. I'm sure he'd be interested. As far as a documentary or something about me, I'm really not sure what plans he has for the footage he's shot, but since he was shooting with his personal video camera I doubt he's planning on a very large audience, and I guess I personally don't know that it would be that interesting of a documentary. I'm really a pretty boring person ;-) And now I'll get back on topic! athan
