Guest guest
http://incontinence.depend.com/experts/living/index.asp?pg=200602 Question: Why do I have to urinate more often when I'm lying down than when I'm up? Answer: As we age, we all begin to have weaker veins. Throughout the day, while we're up and about, we will have some fluid retention mostly in our legs. This happens to some degree whether you notice leg swelling or not. When we lie down, our feet are at an even level with our heart, and gravity is not fighting us. The fluid returns into the blood vessels. The heart more efficiently pumps the fluid to the kidneys, which make urine, when gravity is not an issue. Many of us make most of our urine at night. Also, many people take nighttime medications and drink a glass or two of water to wash the pills down. This compounds the problem. Options for improving the situation are: keeping an eye on fluid intake at night, wearing support hose or resting for at least 30 minutes in the afternoon with the feet propped above the level of the heart. In addition, supervised use of diuretics or water pills in the afternoon can alleviate this problem. >What if a person has to urinate when the lie down at night and not during >the day? The opposite issue of what you were describing? > >Blueeberri >
