Guest guest
This family was overwhelmed and with nowhere to turn to. If we had services instead of the crazy-Medwaiver-going-nowhere-waiting-list here in Florida, maybe this would not have happened. What will take for policy makers to see that? http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/broward/fort-lauderdale/fl-autistic-boy-court-2\ 0110709,0,6545567.story > > This is so sad......I pray they get answers.... > I guess this is National Bad Parent Month....First that chick now this... > http://www.wsvn.com/news/articles/local/21004785381276/ >

Guest guest
Doesn't a family move to the top of the list when in crisis? Homeless is one of the crisis criteria. All families need support in raising their children with autism, but this is also a single mother with bipolar who is homeless. They are not bad parents, bad people, they are parents that need help. I am glad DCF realizes it, maybe APD will " Instead of looking at this like a child abuse- or a criminal abandonment-kind of case, it's one of those where we're going to do everything we can to make sure the boy receives the services he requires and the parents receive the assistance and the help that they need at this point, " Riordan said. Guest guest
If we don't take the time to inundate the governor and legislators with letters NOW - not just during the session then NOTHING is going to change! Guest guest
I have been in contact with a friend who is an attorney with DCF and have asked that he try to see if the social workers involved with the home study will at least consider consulting with someone who is an expert on autism when making their decision regarding this child's future and who he ends up living with. Joyce Subject: . Re: Police try to locate unattended Autistic child's parentsTo: sList Date: Monday, July 11, 2011, 3:12 PM Unfortunately, many parents don't have the understanding of how the system works and don't know who to turn to in times of crisis. Perhaps this mother may have been given priority for services, but did she know how to get them? Or how long would it have taken? She obviously does not have the ability to care for this child at this time. Having a friend drop your child off at the local hospital is of course a sign of terrible dysfunction. But should they give the child to the father who abandoned the family to begin with? I sure hope not.
