Guest guest
Good afternoon ladies, I'm in need of some information regarding a prescription. If you currently take Neurontin or have done so in the past, what dosage should I start off at and how many times a day. From there how much and when do I increase the dosage. My NP isn't quite sure because she's never wrote a script for someone who has Vulvar Vestibulitis. Please keep in mind I only have pain on contact, by having intercourse or having a gynological exam...could this medication still work for that? The physical therapist that treats me for PFD, told me to give it a try because my nerves are constantly firing off all day and the signal needs to be stopped at the brain. I figure maybe the Neurontin could also help my lower back pain as well. My lower back aches all day long except when I'm sleeping and even then I sometimes toss an turn due to the pain. I've taken Lodine and Soma recently when needed and that doesn't do much for the pain, so I'm at my wits end. I would greatly appreciate any info/suggestions, have a good evening to all. P.S. I'm very scared about taking this medication because I've heard about the unplesant side effects....I know there's side effects with every medication but what are the pro's and con's? ~~
Guest guest
The starting dosage I was prescribed was 300 mg once a day at bedtime. I too was concerned about side effects and posted a message awhile back asking people if they had side effects from Gabapentin (that's the generic name for it). I decided not to take it because I always get the worst possible side effects from all meds, even Dr. Brodzinsky didn't think it would be a good idea for me. It sounds like it only helps some people but if you're not sensitive to meds you could give it a try... the gyn who prescribed it said to take 300 mg for a month and if it didn't help the dose would be increased (but I'm not sure by how much). > > Good afternoon ladies, I'm in need of some information regarding a > prescription. Guest guest
A single capsule is 300 mg so it is the starting dose. I don't believe you can make it smaller but perhaps if you called a compounding pharmacy and asked the pharmacist if the capsule can be opened and recapsuled as a half dose you might feel more comfortable to try. I took it for a while, 900 mg a day, some drowy side effect but not unmanagable. Definitely take the first dose at nite, on a nite that you do not have to do anything the next day so if you feel overly tired it won't matter. It does clear your body I believe in a day, check with a pharmacist, so you won't be feeling the effect for days after. > > > > Good afternoon ladies, I'm in need of some information regarding a > > prescription. Guest guest
I've been on it twice in the past few months. The first time, I was instructed to take 100 mg 4 times per day and to increase by 100 mg per week until symptoms subsided. The second time, I was told to take 300 mg at night and to increase by 300 mg once per week not to exceed 900 mg/week until I saw the dr again. I got up to 900 mg/week. Guest guest
At least in its generic form, gabapentin, Neurontin is available in 100 mg. capsules.I started with 1- 100 mg. cap/3x/day (300 mg./day) and have raised progressively to900/day. Will probably go a little higher soon.HollisA single capsule is 300 mg so it is the starting dose. Guest guest
hi, I started at 100mg at night, and worked my way up to 300mg over the course of a month. I stayed on it for a few months but ended up going off of it. It was good I took it at night because it made me drowsy. Also, I can't imagine increasing more than 100mg at a time b/c it's pretty strong stuff.nicoleTo: VulvarDisorders From: hgz@...Date: Wed, 25 Jun 2008 22:59:12 -0500Subject: RE: Re: Starting Dosage for Neurontin...PLEASE HELP!!! Guest guest
NEURONTIN.....I started at 300 MG and slowly levelled off at current 1200 - 600 am and 600 pm. I KNOW it gives me " brain fog " - but I will find ways to manage that side effect to continue the benefits I have received. It has been almost 2 years now. I have tried to go down a dose but this is just what works for me. I have to be careful of alcohol - I now have one drink instead of two when I am out. That's probably way better for me anyway! na > > Good afternoon ladies, I'm in need of some information regarding a > prescription.
