Guest guest
Remember one day between transplant 1 & 2 when I wrote something about listening to the nurses, but verifying with the doctors? Too bad I didn't remember that little bit of very good advice! This morning after the nurse told Ken that we would have to stay another 2 weeks, we were both so down (actually, we couldn't get much more depressed.) I decided we needed to get out, so Ken & I took the Baylor shuttle to WalMart and stocked up. When we got back, I started to cook, while Ken napped. Around 4:00 the coordinator called, the results from the blood test Ken had on Tuesday were in. NO CMV!!! His test came back negative!!! He has to take (more) pills for a follow up 2 weeks, but it's gone. ((It can come back anytime it reactivates and he'd have to start the treatment all over again, but for now - it's gone.)) As soon as we hung up the phone, I called TJ and said - come early tomorrow and help us pack - we're going home!! Ken has to go in tomorrow and have his PICC line removed, but by this time tomorrow, we'll be sitting in our front room. I'll have my two puppies in my lap, while Ken will have Roxy & Dollar at his feet. We are soooo happy. We'll have to come back for Tuesday labs & clinics until the end of the month, one more class to attend on a Friday and Ken has a 3 hour kidney test yet to do, but who cares - I'll drive anywhere - cause we're going home. My only worry - today was his first day of coumadin and for the next week, he'll be on 3 different blood thinners. Scary, since his blood is already so thin with the 2 he's currently on. When he gives himself a shot, it takes 10-15 minutes to stop bleeding. Everything will be OK though, cause we're going home! I'm going to write just a few more updates, before I quit - but they will have to wait - cause I'm pooped and going to bed. We're just so happy..........
