Guest guest
Hi Folks, Sorry to clog the board. I've tried to be calm and practical all day, and appreciate the answers I've received to my questions, but now I'm just falling apart. Systemic yeast seems to be back in full force--I can feel--and smell--it everywhere and I feel absolutely awful: vulvar irritation, rectal itching, diarrhea, coated tongue, skin eruptions, exhaustion. I have done everything imaginable over the years to get this under control (diet, every variety of longterm prescription and non-prescription antifungal, topical treatments, desensitization, detox and anti-inflammatory protocols, treatment for endometriosis and related autoimmune conditions). As I've written before, everything works for a time and I've been lucky to have long stretches of relief. But eventually every " cure " peters out. Tonight, nearly 10 years after this battle began, I find myself once again desperate and in tears, withdrawn from friends and family, my relationship under strain because of my failure to cope. A prior relationship ended because of this pattern (among other things), and I am terrified that the cycle is starting again. I guess I'm just looking for some words of encouragement, as well as any advice from those who have managed systemic yeast longterm. Thanks for listening, Glomer
Guest guest
Glomer, I have come to realize that candida is for me something I will never be able to get rid of. IN the first place to get rid of it one needs to be on the diet from hell--no fruit, no starch, no sugar, no alcohol, no yeast, no anything but non stachy vegetables and meat for the most part. I have to take on a regular basis whatever antifungals I can manage to get prescriptions for. I often think, (almost daily) that I can live without my estrogen, without my blood pressure pills, maybe without the daily antibiotic to prevent bladder infections, (that is all I take) but I can't live without the antifungals which are less effective every day. The ignorance and nonsense I usually get from doctors about candida blows me over. I have come to realize that this is something I will need treated for the rest of my life. It is part of my autoimmune disease of food sensitivities which I do my best to not eat and I can't know what all of them are because the tests do not exist. Medical science is not quite up to dealing with candida and food sensitivies or other causes. The doctors seem to immediately think we have been " on internet again " getting riciculous information. It is hard. I don't believe yeast is the primary disease. I believe there is a disease and maybe you should look for it but that of course doesn't mean you will not have yeast. The fact is that certain foods that we are reactive to cross react with candida--which means we have autoimmune reactions to it. You may be one of those. You need antifungals. Maybe enzymes and probiotics and nutritionals will help. It is a terrible problem. Some people need to treat various diseases all their lives. Maybe that is the mind set you should have but of course to do that you need to have a doctor who will understand this is one of those times. Try to find a homeopath or somebody who doesn't follow the same nonsense the mainstream narrow thing follows. Arline Arline > Hi Folks, > > Sorry to clog the board. Guest guest
Hey Glomer,Hang in there! Try to keep telling yourself this is just a 'flare up', and that things will calm down soon. Sounds like you have actually had the yeast under some control recently...so surely it can happen again! Do you keep a close watch on your thyroid? When reading your symptoms, it made me wonder if your thyroid is working properly. When the thyroid is out of whack...it sure can create many problems. Guest guest
Hey, Have you had your thyroid tested? Sometimes if your thyroid isn't working properly you are more prone to infections...including yeast. Lindsey

Guest guest
Hi Arline, Thanks so much for your reply--and your solidarity! I'm so sorry you are going through this, too! From your previous posts, it seems that you and I are indeed dealing with a similar nexus of issues (yeast, gluten, immune response, etc.). Have you identified an underlying cause for your candida? If you don't mind my asking, which antifungals have you tried? I've been on nystatin, fluconazole, nizoral, sporanox, ancobon and every herbal equivalent(!). All have worked beautifully for a time, up to 10 months, then failed. I'm lucky to be working with a doctor who takes yeast seriously and is open to a wide range of treatment protocols, but I fear that even she is running out of ideas. In the past, she has suggested lyme disease as a possible factor, so I plan to go ahead and get tested. I already take massive probiotics and digestive enzymes, and am on an anti-allergy version of the Sugarbusters diet. Yesterday I began doing an intestinal cleanse with psyllium and bentonite, which seems to be helping; I did this daily for a while with good results, so perhaps it's time to return to that routine. Please let me know if anything you try brings relief. Thanks again for your kind response, Glomer > > Glomer, > > I have come to realize that candida is for me something I will never be able to get rid of. Guest guest
Chelle and , Thanks so much for your kind replies. I am hypothyroid and take a natural thyroid supplement, but I haven't had my levels tested for 6 months or so. Thanks for the suggestion! Glomer > > Hey Glomer, > > Hang in there! Guest guest
If I can believe what I read I suspect the cause is mixed perhaps--too many antibiotics for too many bladder infections, Gluten Sensitivity (gluten, casein, and candida all cross react to each other) in addition to totally messing up the guts, enzyme system, probiotic content, etc. (However, I had never had antibiotics until I was about twelve and I had yeast long before that.) Since the enzymes are all messed up I suspect I don't digest sugars as well as I might (as well as most other foods of course). Taking enzymes and probiotics has really helped my gut but I still have the ever present yeast. I hate so to take pills so I am not very diligent. I have mostly tried Diflucan but also the one (can't remember the name of it) that they prescribe for toenail fungus. It is the one that supposedly goes deeper into the tissue. (It might start with an L)? I had thought of Lyme disease for you. I hope you don't have that. It is really terrible. It sounds like you have an interested doc and that is really wonderful!! Wish you luck. I am still here because of yeast. ANy breakthroughs will be glad shared. Arline > Hi Arline, > > Thanks so much for your reply--and your solidarity! Guest guest
Glomer,I still have much to learn about the thyroid myself -- but it can really cause many problems if not properly treated when it should be. Also, docs are not always up to date or as helpful as you would think they would be. (Sounds familiar, huh?) Here is a good website: http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com Don't give up! Guest guest
Glomer, I am so sorry you are having such a flare up. I can't tell you how many times I have found solutions for my other issues, as if VV isn't enough, to have it work for a while then suddenly stop working as if someone up there noticed I was making progress and felt I might actually crawl out of this pit I have been in for several years. It is hard to keep getting back up again and again but there is nothing else to do but to keep trying. Keep reading. Keep turning over those stones because somewhere that has to be a path out. Sometimes I go back and pick up the same stones just incase I missed something or sometimes the fact that time has passed something else in me has changed and something that didn't work at all starts to work a little. Then I feel encouraged again even though I can almost predict it won't last but maybe I can get enough peace to get some of my energy back. Maybe checking your thyroid is the next thing or some other metabolic test ie Diabetes or other hormone testing will give you the next idea. Take care, shelley > > > > Hey Glomer, > > > > Hang in there! Try to keep telling yourself this is just a 'flare up', and that things will > calm down soon. Guest guest
Hi , I take kind of a mish mash but basically the ones from Kirkman Labs. If I am going to have just something with fat in a meal or even a supplement like flax seed oil I might just take one called Lypo Gold from Enzymedica. If I am having a protein meal I will take one from Kirkman called Peptizide. If I am just eating carbohydrates I take one called Carb Digest with Isogest. And if there are any sugars like fruit or lots of starch I might take also Enzyme-Complete/DPP-IV II. Both of these will add enzymes to help one digest different kinds of sugars. If I just have to have a cheese enchildada and choose to actively destroy my insides I will take a couple ones called Gluten Ease from Enzymedica which lessons some reactions to casein and gluten. (I never choose to eat gluten but have a hard time always refusing cheese). Or instead of having all of these different bottles and kinds, one can figure out which one or two contains the entire gamut of enzymes, although in lesser amounts perhaps. It is hard for me to figure it all out. It would be great to have somebody to help with this but actually I wouldn't believe what they told me anyway. It is a pretty new thing. I recently told a gastroenterologist about my diarrhea and he told me to take Immodium. I say that with a straight face. I forget how much that office visit cost. If I wanted to take Immodium I wouldn't have gone to him. I want something natural that doesn't stop the function of the intestinal tract with chemicals. The enzymes and probiotics seem to do that pretty well. I am not a great fan of pharmaceuticals. Also if one has the opposite problem--constipation--the enzymes and probiotics will help. It is a lot experimentation suited to one's needs and pocket book. Good luck!! I hope this rather confused answer is illuminating. ;o) Arline Subject: Re: Hitting bottom (again)To: VulvarDisorders Date: Saturday, June 28, 2008, 8:39 PM Hi Arline,Imight have asked you this before, but what enzymes are you taking?thanks! Guest guest
Thanks so much for the words of encouragement, --it really means a lot to me. I'm sorry that you, too, have cycled in and out of illness and wellness, and I certainly know how hard it can be having to address other health concerns alongside vv. I've already been diagnosed insulin resistant, so your suggestion of diabetes testing is on the mark. I guess I'll just keep " turning over the stones " until a more complete picture emerges! Thanks again, Glomer > > > > > > Hey Glomer, > > > > > > Hang in there! Try to keep telling yourself this is just > a 'flare up', and that things will > > calm down soon. Guest guest
Glomer, I was thinking that several years ago before Diflucan came on the scene they used to treat yeast with Nystatin swish and swallow to get the entire GI tract and vag tabs. As newer drugs have come along they don't use it as much. Have you done Nystatin? > > > > > > > > Hey Glomer, > > > > > > > > Hang in there!
