Unfortunately, many parents don't have the understanding of how the system works and don't know who to turn to in times of crisis. Perhaps this mother may have been given priority for services, but did she know how to get them? Or how long would it have taken?

She obviously does not have the ability to care for this child at this time. Having a friend drop your child off at the local hospital is of course a sign of terrible dysfunction. But should they give the child to the father who abandoned the family to begin with? I sure hope not.
