Guest guest
Hi! My name is and I was diagnosed with vulvar vestibulitis about five years ago. I just wanted to introduce myself. Any and all help is appreciated. It's nice not to feel alone. So here is my question... I recently have been have pain and so the Dr. told me it was a yeast infection so I did a treatment. Then after two test, I found out it was negative for bacteria, yeast, and infection. So, I knew what is going on. It's just I don't know why the flare up. Does anyone have a similar experience where it flared up more at a certain time for no reason? Did the medication for the yeast infection make it more irritated? I appreciate your help. Guest guest
Hi , welcome to the group! What are you currently using/doing to control or help your Vulvar pain symptoms. I think many of us have been misdiagnosed with yeast/bacterial infections that we didn't have. The OTC yeast meds have been notorious for 'causing' more irritation or even setting it off for some. If you will go to the homepage (scroll to the bottom to find the link) you can use the 'search' box to look up more info on 'yeast infections' or vestibulitis/vestibulodynia, etc.Again, welcome, and I apologize for being slow to answer! Take Care,~Chelle
Guest guest
Hi , Welcome! I can't offer you a definitive answer, but I can say that flare-ups have many causes and that those causes vary depending upon the root (or roots) of a woman's pain. In my case, flare-ups can mean a rise in systemic yeast/mold, that I've eaten a food I'm allergic to or been exposed to an environmental allergen, that I'm under stress or experiencing hormonal changes. So yes, the yeast medication could be the cause of your flare, and pain can linger long after the trigger has been removed (search the forum for information on mast cell proliferation and histamine response--Dee and others on this list have collected a lot of research about genetic differences in women with vulvar pain that result in a pain response that doesn't know how to shut off). Your negative cultures, provided they were done by a reliable lab (Genova Diagnostics-- formerly Great Smokies--is often considered the best), are a good piece of information that can allow you to investigate other possible pain sources--pelvic floor dysfunction, insufficient estrogen in the vulvar tissue, allergies, etc. I'm afraid I don't know much about vestibulitis, but have read that many with localized pain or pain with contact improve greatly with physical therapy. Do you have a vulvar specialist/gynecological PT in your area? You may want to consult the list of practitioners contained on this site to find specialized support. Hope this helps!
