My husband has psc, and is undergoing the evaluation process for

transplant. He has terrible pain in his legs and feet. I (softly)

massage them, but it doesn't seem to help much. Does anyone know of

anything that makes this pain more bearable?

Thanks!

Your husband should

talk to his doctor about his leg pain.

You never know if something is part of a larger medical picture or not,

so mentioning it to the doctor is only prudent. There are a few things he can do in the

meantime. When he sits, he should

keep his legs elevated whenever possible. If he hasn’t already, he should cut

way back on salt. Fluid build up in

the legs and feet (even if you can’t see it) hurts. Several people have reported that drinking

Tonic water helps leg cramps. Now a days, the amount of

quinine isn’t the same concentration as it used to be, but surely wouldn’t

hurt him to try it. HTH

My husband has psc, and is undergoing the evaluation process for transplant. He has terrible pain in his legs and feet

My brother sometimes experiences this, extreme pain in his calves, knees and feet. We asked his doc about it, he said that it was symptom that PSC patients experience, and they were not sure of the connections.

In my brothers case, he has found HOT soaking baths help, and elevating his legs while laying down. he also has an rx for pain medication for when he experiences episodes. We have noticed that the joint pains happen allot when he is also experiencing some edema as well.

Hope you find something that helps...

When our son was first diagnosed they started looking at his joints and asked him at every appointment about it. PSC is autoimmune and so is rheumatoid arthritis so that is what they were looking for. Good luck.Marti Crumbliss wrote: _,_._,___ My

I would definitely see a rheumatologist. I suffered for nearly a year

with severe pain in the joints of my knees and ankles. It was

particularly bad in the evenings when I was tired. In fact, it was

tough just to get up off the sofa. I was attributing it all to the

normal PSC progression, but eventually I talked myself into seeing if

we could do something to relieve the pain.

The rheumatologist did some testing and found symptoms of rheumatoid

arthritis, and after some heated battles with the insurance company,

got approval for Remicade infusions. That was two months ago. As of

today, my joints are nearly pain free, and I'm feeling better than I

have in a long time.

Remicade is a costly solution, but if it works, it's worth the time

and trouble of the infusions.

I was talking to a doctor friend of mine and he said Alpha Lopic Acid might help. He said people with diabetes use it for circulation to their legs and legs problems. Might be worth a try.

I would ask the hepatologist first if it's okay to use this. Or is this by

prescription? But thanks for the information. I'll look into it.
