Guest guest
Hello my fellow Autism families. Please take a moment to sign this petition. Im hoping that we concerned parents are least heard. The acknowledgement would be a huge step for the safety of our children who can't protect themselves. I found out recently, that for more than a year, my son was attending school without his 1:1 aide. He was neglected and abused. I found out through a brave aide that didn't care about loosing her job. If she hadnt told me, my son would still be in toxic environment. Please do all you can to spread the news of this petition. We have to speak up for all the children who can't speak for themselves!!! I encourage you to forward this to friends and family. Thank you. Love and Faith, Naima The Letter sent to Senator Barbra Boxer: Dear Senator Boxer, My name is Naima Amos and I have a very sweet by nature,7 year old non-verbal son who is diagnosed with Autism. His Individual Education Plan (IEP) has been breached by the school district for over a year. He's not been provided a 1:1 aide as indicated as in his IEP. While having a conversation with one of the school aides, it was disclosed to me that my son was having such difficulty because he wasn't provided his assigned 1:1 aide. I'm finding similar horror stories more and more common since the school district's budget cuts. If that courageous aide hadn't spoken up, which many don't, due to fear of loosing their job, my son would still be in an environment that was causing obvious behavior concerns. In a year of neglect and isolation, he became aggressive and depressed. Some of these predominant indicators include; biting himself and others and crying uncontrollably for hours while using a " sad " icon from his communication book. When I questioned his teacher regarding the behaviors he was developing she indicated that " his aide " was untrained and that they were working on training her. This is a small concern that parents of non-verbal children face every day. My son has come home with unexplained bruises on his arm as if he was grabbed abruptly. When I asked about it, I was told they had no idea how that could have happened. My son is my 4th child and my 1st child that CANT come home and tell me how his day was. I find it extremely unfair and dangerous to allow average people(high school graduate criteria) educate and care for our children that are non-verbal with no accountability. There have been several occasions where I have walked in on aides yelling inappropriately at children that cant go home and tell their parents how they've been made to feel worthless. I'm hoping that you can direct me towards a resolution to our problem. Parents of non-verbal children would like to see a webcam in our children's classes. This would allow us(individually) to log on with our pass code for a visual and auditory connection. Web cams in private schools have been successful around the world at this for years. This is a win win situation. It would keep the adults on their best behavior and parents up dated on the progress of their children. I'm passionately determined to find a way to protect our children that don't have a voice. Please guide me towards the most efficient way to make this a priority for all special needs classes that have non-verbal children. Thank for taking the time to read my letter and I look forward to hearing from you regarding this urgent matter.... ----------The Petition Link-----------(may have to cut & paste)--- https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions/!/petition/allow-parents-non-verbal-childr\ en-have-capability-observe-their-childs-classroom-though-webcam/Gqg2hhnQ
