Guest guest
Hi, I was taking Estriol along with Estradiol and Testosterone for my V problems and for HRT. I did feel that it was helping me some. Now Wyeth, the drug company that makes Premarin and Prempro is making a big fuss because their sales of those drugs are dropping because more and more woman want the bio-identical hormones. So, I believe I read that the FDA is thinking of banning the sales of Estriol. As a result of all this the insurance companies, at least mine, Blue Cross, won't cover Estriol anymore. I can't afford the extra money so I had my pharmacist send me my refill with no Estriol in it. Now I'm bleeding and have terrible burning and irritation. I'm so P'd off. It's all about money, they don't care about us consumers if they're not making money off of us. I could go on ranting, but I was wondering if anyone else encountered a problem if they use Estriol? Guest guest
Yes, the FDA did prohibit compounding pharmacies from putting Estriol in their formulations. However I think you should go back to your pharmacy and tell them that the cream you are using has caused you unacceptable side effects. They might have given you the wrong formulation. In my opinion removing Estriol from the cream should not cause bleeding. It could have prevented pain but I doubt it prevented bleeding. Guest guest
Hi Kathy,I think what Ora said makes a lot of sense. It certainly does 'stink', though, when the main focus is 'big bucks' instead of the health of people...*ugh*. Several of us use/have used the compounded meds like Estradiol and Testosterone. The stress of dealing with everything is hard, but keep reminding yourself that things will get better. Where there is a will, there is a way! Don't give up! Guest guest
Hi Ora, I called the compounding pharmacy and told the pharmacist about the bleeding and increased pain. She said the bleeding may or may not be from removing the Estriol, but she suggested that I add progesterone, so that's what I'm going to try. It's bad enough having V pain, but when the FDA starts messing with something that provides some relief, it just makes me stop and wonder about health care in this country. Guest guest
Hi Chelle, If I wasn't a member of this group I would think that I was nuts! Thank God I have other women who understand. I've been dealing with V pain for about seven years now, and there are times when I think that it will never get better. Then I stop and tell myself that things could be worse. Sorry to be a downer, this setback with the hormones has really got me down. It feels good to be able to vent to other women like you. Thanks. Guest guest
I have always been under the impression that compounding pharmacies prepared medications based on a doctor's prescription. Your reply seems to indicate that they can put anything they like into the medications without consulting a doctor. Guest guest
Hi Ora, My pharmacy definitely spoke to my doctor about it, and he agreed that I should try progesterone. > >

Guest guest
Hi Ora, Actually the progesterone is an oral tablet. It's supposed to help with the bleeding the Estradiol was causing. I know that Dee said that she doesn't take progesterone because it's not good, and when I spoke to my doctor he actually agreed. He was sending me for ultrasounds every few months to make sure the lining of my uterus wasn't building up too much, but I guess the pharmacist convinced him that it's better to take the progesterone. Oy! Kathy
Guest guest
Hi Ora, I just checked out the link you posted. Have you ever ordered from this pharmacy before? I was reading on their webpage that the Estriol (Ovestin) cream can help with irritation and infections which is great. Do you know if there's anything else besides Estriol in the cream? Guest guest
I have not ordered estriol before from anyone. Other ingredients are listed a the bottom of the following page. http://www.inhousepharmacy.com/womens-hrt/ovestin-cream-info-hrt.html List of excipients Eutanol G; Cetyl palmitate; Glycerol; Cetyl alcohol; Stearyl alcohol; Polysorbate 60; Sorbitan monostearate; Lactic acid; Chlorhexidine hydrochloride; Sodium hydroxide; Purified water. I wonder if it " plumps up " the tissues as does estradiol. I will investigate that further and maybe will find out. On the same page http://www.inhousepharmacy.com/womens-hrt/ovestin-cream-info-hrt.html it states: " Pre- and post-operative therapy in postmenopausal women undergoing vaginal surgery 1 application per day in the 2 weeks before surgery; 1 application twice a week in the 2 weeks after surgery. Guest guest
Hi Ora, Yikes, there seems to be a lot of chemicals in the Estriol. From what it states to women who are having surgery, it sounds like it would be very good for the tissues. If you get it and decide to use it, please let me know if you like it.
