Guest guest
My ASD child recently starting getting her period and needs assistance changing her sanitary pad, but we are working on getting her to do this independently. When the school year starts I want to add this goal to her IEP so that she will be able to do all of this by herself. This isn't an academic goal, but it is a self-care issue, can this type of goal be added? Has anyone else done this? Thanks.
Guest guest
Teaching personal hygiene can be part of the IEP - you can request that it be added just as if you are adding requests for special diet etc. If no where else, it can be added on the written page by the ESE coordinator at the meeting where they put the parental requests. Guest guest
We added toileting to our son's IEP so I don't see why you menstrual issues wouldn't fall under the same category as toileting.
