I am sure there are many parents in this group that can help you through the tangled web of public schools, additionally, I find the yahoo group parent to parent to be filled with experts in this area.

yes you will need an IEP meeting as this will be something written into the IEP. You need to write down specific reasons why you believe your son needs an aide because you will likely hear all kinds of arguments against it, that it makes the child too dependent and doesnt encourage certain skills and is harmful therefore, also that there is already a classroom aide why would he need even more attention then that, etc, so line up your arguments and be specific. What will a one on one do for him that will support his obtaining an education? etc. slaw has some good articles on how to request one. Also if you google this you should fine at least one more article on how to get an aide. Best of luck.

Don’t wait…..

The longer you

wait the longer you will wait. Lot’s of other

people are thinking they are going to wait till school starts, plus teachers

will see issues that they want to address. Get in front of that line. School

staff is around and you can get started. Call the number I told you about and

do the paperwork because they are busy too and can book up to 6 weeks to two

months out. It will also make you feel better that there is one less thing you

need to do when school starts.

Good luck
