Guest guest
To go with my whine... Couldn't put my name in parentheses because then I definitely look like a butt!!! See what I mean??? (|)onna And I'm gonna whine in my update.. LOL It's raining, it's pouring.. the dogs are using my couch & chairs as their Porta-!!! (and they do it when I'm not looking.. and are sneakily quiet as well).. Bark at me to go outside.. get out on the porch after much ta-do with the chair [why is it that my living room has become an obstacle course?] and then stand and look at me like... "It's wet out there.. Are YOU NUTS???" Along with all that rain comes dampness.. And I know that "not thinking" decided it would be a great time to run the dishwasher AND the dryer this morning... to add a little extra "warmth" to the house, so that I wouldn't need the furnace to be kicked on to warm it up in here.. Not thinking that he just compounded the DAMP!!!!... Now.. don't get me wrong.. in the winter time.. when it's cold outside and the furnace is running a bunch.. the dry heat is a bit much on the sinus' so having the dishwasher or dryer humidify the place is nice.. just not today... I already ache from the cold damp.. (Guess he figures warm damp is better? LOL).. I didn't even get to enjoy my coffee while it was hot this morning... because that only raised my internal temperature to way above boiling.... Wish they could do something to fix the screwing up of the internal thermostat for we MSers.. We can't find a happy medium in this house.. I gotta freeze for to be comfortable.. or he's got strip to skivvies for me to be comfortable... He would get nekkid.. cept he insists that the neighbors could see him in the house that way.. They'd have to stand ON the porch with their noses pressed up against the window to see in here!!! And no one sez he has to get up and boogie in front of that window either.. LOL.. Anybody have any inkling as to whether one can start the hot flashes of menopause long before the "visitor" stops visiting?.. But then again.. I thought "hot flashes" were just that.. "flashes".. Earl may be coming to stay with us.. on a semi-permanent basis.. He stays now while he's working with to set monuments and other things in which might need a hand. He's also got a friend of a friend who is looking into getting him a "full-time" job working at a local company.. actually within walking distance as the bird flies.. and even without the bird flies path, at his age.. IF he would need to walk (ya know.. snow knee deep.. to the Jolly Green Giant type stuff).. Him coming to stay.. will be... well I'm not sure what it will be.. definitely helpful, for the most part.. might have to ask.. but I CAN get back to using "guilt" to get things done for me, by him.. <grin>.. It will be company on the days he isn't working.. and it is ALWAYS a pleasure to see him come.. and sometimes a pleasure to see him leave as well.. However, I would think the same holds true on his side of the fence... He might have to.. if working full time.. help out with the grocery bill around here.. or at the very least buy his own snacking stuff.. cause I've never known anybody who can eat as much as he does.. and NOT weigh as much as me.. LOL... Both of the boys were that way... Make one of those HUGE stock pots of vegetable soup (or any type of soup).. and they could clean it out in one evening!.. Whoa!!!!!.. not a hot flash.. now that the dryer and dishwasher have shut off.. it's cooling down in the bedroom.. I'm staying in here today.. dark and dreary as it is.. because my foot needs a break from being sat on in the computer chair.. and I keep putting on and rubbing in some Diabeti-Derm cream I found in the store.. hoping to prevent a pressure sore on my foot.. How am I?.. Hmmmm.. fighting depression.. pissed off sometimes, down in the dumps other times.. might get by without either of those.. IF I can find something interesting to watch on Project Free TV, or something to get my mind off how lousy I feel, or things aching... Can't for the life of me think of a reason for my right knee, a year and a half AFTER the hard fall, to start acting up.. but it is.. And of course my hips are even more painful now following the knee injuries last year.. because those have altered my gait even more so.. Yes, I was prescribed Lodine for that pain and inflammation, thinking it is most likely some type of arthritis in there.. from 52 years of falls, accidents and abuse.. do have an order for an X-Ray.. (as well as a myriad of other tests that my PCP would like to see done.. might pass again on the colonoscopy though.. unless can figure out how to make the "prep" period semi-humane) I do have the music CD's (still) to finish putting together.. to keep me busy.. DID get the music from his old cassettes set up for CD, and in CD quality.. and those are finished.. want to put together some others so old that I'm sure he hasn't heard them in many years.. but will remember as soon as he hears them.. It's nice to bring good memories to others.. I started working on the family tree once again.. and that should keep me busy for awhile.. especially if I start to obsess over it.. make it a passion.. (though I do have to admit.. my passion for it, still hasn't completely returned after losing Bud)... Sunday would have been his 36th birthday.. that might also have something to do with the moods right now as well.. The passion for it started.. shortly after he was born.. I wanted to give him something of his roots... some sense of where he came from.. so it seems to be a moot point right now.. but I keep plugging away at it.. looking for new resources... Keep thinking that I want to write a book.. only I'm not sure just what type of book I want to write.. We have so many "inspiring" stories about people succeeding and getting around the MonSter.. I'm really kind of tired of hearing those inspiring stories.. Don't get me wrong.. if anyone can find a way to live successfully and happily and succeed while dealing and living with the MonSter.. I say MORE POWER TO THEM.. and ENJOY!!!.. But what about those of us, and I suspect there are many many more of us than them... who just manage to get by and we still keep plodding our way.. and living and dealing with the MonSter.... Well..now that we've had enough of my whine session... someone please pass the cheese HUGS |)onna Okay everyone! Time for an update. How are you? What are you doing to stay busy? Guest guest
Just a thought that hit me when reading your last paragraph, I have a book suggestion for you (to read, not one to write, I think you'll fins just the perfect one to write without my help ). Have you read "Smile or Die" by Barbara Ehrenreich? I bought that for the other week, because she said something similar to what you are saying here, about how all the stories about MSers in the magazine she is subscribing to is about people who, in 's words: "Have climbed Mount Everest, and travelled alone through Asia, and have two doctorates, and, oh, yes they have MS too". She said that she wouldn't mind those stories, if there were stories about people who have a little less "super fantastic lives". And the "Smile or Die" book takes its start in a similar experience the writer has when living with breast cancer. I haven't read it myself, but said it was really to the point about those things. And if you were Swedish I would sign this post with "ni-na-ni-na-ni", referring to the intro song in the 1970's and 1980's childrens TV-show: "Book suggestion for today". It's strange, actually, how those of us who grew up in Sweden back then just can't seem to suggest a book without singing, or typing, a little "ni-na-ni-na"... The reason for it is here: passing the cheese...> >> >> > Okay everyone! Time for an update. How are you? What are you doing > > to stay busy? What TV shows do you watch? Guest guest
Hi Donna,Here have a glass of white zinfandel; my wine of choice! As far as 'flashes'...though they can be momentary and episodic, there's a good many times where they've 'parked' themselves and stayed around for awhile. Iuse to get the sweats as well--very annoying and uncomfortable. I've been 'done' with the 'visitor' as you aptly put it, but have still had hot moments. Guest guest
That's a great way to suggest the "book of the week" to kids.. or even adults.. (I checked out the link)... I've checked out & Noble to see if it were in e-book format.. it's not.. but she has a ton of others out there.. but first I Googled "Smile or Die", and then picked the 4th in the list, under the video options.. which is this: http://www.ritholtz.com/blog/2010/06/smile-or-die/ I suspect it's not actually a review on the book "Smile or Die" itself.. but she does makes some very valid points in the short/medium video there.. It's as simple as.. come Monday.. (or sooner if they have evening hours) WILL be taking me over to our public library for me to pick up more than few books to be read.. and Smile or Die will be on the list to be read.. since it's not in e-book format as of yet.. and if they don't have it... I'll put in an inter-library loan type request.. I really do dislike being so negative.. but sometimes it's very hard to be positive and think positively when so very much is wrong, and more keeps going wrong.. And like .. I really would prefer to have a few more "reality" stories told in these magazines.. cause as well all know.. WE aren't the person climbing Mount Everest.. and we aren't financially situated to "get that doctorate" or purchase the special stuff needed to climb Mount Everest.. There are ALL kinds of things out there, to make our lives so very very very much easier to live.. cupboards that are on a hidden slide that can be pulled down to our level for use from a wheel or power chair.. and then moved on back up for the non-chair bound people living in the same house.. I found them.. online.. and 1 cupboard, just one small cupboard that would handle say glasses & cups. was $2,500.00 to start! A walk-in bathtub.. starts at $1,500.00.. unless we're Montell or from the very wealthy side of the tracks.. it just ain't happening in OUR houses.. So give us articles that actually pertain to us.. Yup.. Now I need to go point it out to the magazine things.. <steps off her soapbox> Thanks for the suggestion Reb.. I will be looking for the book HUGS |)onna Just a thought that hit me when reading your last paragraph, I have a book suggestion for you (to read, not one to write, I think you'll fins just the perfect one to write without my help ). Guest guest
Oh Thank You Kate.. I did get a chuckle out of the white zinfandel.. how I would sooooo love one.. but would grab the glass faster than I could pour into it.. too many medications to mess around with adding alcohol to the equation.. The strange part now.. is that my hands and my feet feel like they are on fire (not that I really and truly mind.. but they are usually like ice).. but the rest of me is chilly.. but I really really am not fondly anticipating that next bout of sweats.. I don't mind waking up in the morning, soaked.. When I wake up that way.. I know that I've had a good restful sleep during the night.. was able to lay still under the quilt long enough for the heat to build up enough to make me sweat.. Well, I do mind a little bit waking up that way.. cause I'm not getting a bath to get completely cleaned up until gets home those evenings.. I could conceivably take one while he's at work.. but I still have these horror movie type pictures flashing through my head of the call that would go out across the police band radios everywhere.. "Lift assist needed for a naked beached whale from her bathroom floor!".. ROFL HUGS |)onna Hi Donna, Here have a glass of white zinfandel; my wine of choice! However, I would think the same holds true on his side of the fence...He might have to.. if working full time.. help out with the grocery bill around here.. or at the very least buy his own snacking stuff.. cause I've never known anybody who can eat as much as he does.. and NOT weigh as much as me.. (as well as a myriad of other tests that my PCP would like to see done.. might pass again on the colonoscopy though.. unless can figure out how to make the "prep" period semi-humane)I do have the music CD's (still) to finish putting together.. to keep me busy.. DID get the music from his old cassettes set up for CD, and in CD quality.. and those are finished.. want to put together some others so old that I'm sure he hasn't heard them in many years.. but will remember as soon as he hears them.. It's nice to bring good memories to others..I started working on the family tree once again.. and that should keep me busy for awhile.. especially if I start to obsess over it.. make it a passion.. How am I?.. Hmmmm.. fighting depression.. pissed off sometimes, down in the dumps other times.. might get by without either of those.. (as well as a myriad of other tests that my PCP would like to see done.. might pass again on the colonoscopy though.. unless can figure out how to make the "prep" period semi-humane)I do have the music CD's (still) to finish putting together.. to keep me busy.. Well..now that we've had enough of my whine session... someone please pass the cheeseHUGS |)onna Okay everyone! Time for an update. How are you? What are you doing to stay busy? Guest guest
Dear DonnaI agree with you that your mood probably has something to do with Bud's birthday. (((big hugs to you)))It is nice to read stories about MSers who are having a wonderful life and very little disability. But it does get a little old. I thought I was the only one who felt like that! lol We are a pissy pair, you and I! Oh no... you just had to mention the G word! You knew that would get me going again, didn't you? I haven't been real active in my genealogy research for a long time. But now I swear Ancestry.com is trying to suck me back. In the past two weeks I have gotten two messages through Ancestry.com from people who are researching the same family members I am. One was someone who gave me a link to a photo of my 3rd great grandfather's gravestone. Then a few days ago I got a message through Ancestry.com from a second cousin I had never heard from before. We have been writing back and forth, sharing photos and info. I have decided I will subscribe to Ancestry.com again when I get my check in October. So Ancestry was successful at dragging me back in the fold. roflKeep writing with us, Donna. We need to hear from you and I think you need to hear from us!love and hugs SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. The slight variations in spelling and grammar enhance its individual character and beauty and in no way are to be considered flaws or defects. To: MSersLife Sent: Thu, September 30, 2010 8:16:41 AMSubject: Re: update time folks! - |)onna's update... AKA Someone please pass the cheese! Guest guest
Impressed by the illustrations in the video there! As I understand from , Barbara Ehrenreich does draw on her experiences as someone living with breast cancer, and apply that to many other areas in that book. And, yes, we found out that she has many books out there, when enthusiastically recommended it to one of her bosses (who is American), he said "I have read all of her books. She is great!" But he hadn't read this particular one, though. will lend it to him, if and when he returns the DVD he is currently (since the last 6 months...) having on loan from her... They do exchange a lot of books and movies, tend to have similar taste. I think those inspiring stories are meant to be a kind of pep-talk. But I think what they don't understand is that if those stories are all you get, it will only make you feel more miserable and alone/lonely, when you are not one of those very successful and lucky people. Even though you certainly are not alone! About the library, is there any way you could access their catalogue online, to see if they have it, and perhaps, if they don't, put in a request for an inter-library loan via their website/catalogue? That's what I do when I have errands to the library in the next city from here, that way I don't have to go twice. Heck, I sometimes do that with the local library too... Internet is a great invention for someone like me...It really is a shame that the things needed to improve everyday life for people with disabilities are so expensive! : ( Is there any way an insurance, or something like that, would cover at least some of those things? Our public health insurance cover some things, like adjustments of a house (widening of doorways to make it possible for a wheelchair to pass, ramps, elevator to get between floors, some bathroom adjustments, that sort of things), or a car (to make it possible for the disabled person to drive it). Although it certainly doesn't cover everything that's out there, don't think it would cover those cupboards for instance, but at least the things they do cover is a good start. Maybe you have something similar to that?OK. Taking off my advice-giving hat... Take care, and enjoy those books you'll get from the library!love/Reb> > > >> > > >> > > > Okay everyone! Guest guest
Sharon, Yup.. we're a pissy pair.. LOL... (well more than just you and I it seems.. LOL).. And yup, the mood does definitely have something to do with his birthday.. and I'm going to insist that take me to the cemetery on Sunday.. I'll clear off the summer's growth, that I'm sure has been killed by frost by now (it is in the mountain).. and I guess I'll have to shop for a birthday present to leave him as well.. Something that will withstand the winter.. And that should help a bit.. Well, if Ancestry offers you a "deal" to renew your membership.. that would be the way to go.. but they'd have to offer me a pretty sweet deal to get me back.. have you checked their membership fees lately? I haven't, but the last time I did.. they were a little more than I wanted to pay for all the more time I was spending doing research.. I did tell you that & Noble offers the e-book "The History of Bucks County" FREE didn't I? And if your family passed through PA on their way west.. might be something of interest for you as well.. Oh well.. guess I need to get started on mine again as well.. Westmoreland County has their public records online now.. and I can give you a link to their database if you need it.. Fayette County, has of yet to get "online" with their stuff.. but I'm looking for all I can find.. LOL.. And I'll try to keep up with the group, on a more timely basis too.. HUGS |)onna Dear Donna I agree with you that your mood probably has something to do with Bud's birthday. (((big hugs to you))) It is nice to read stories about MSers who are having a wonderful life and very little disability. So Ancestry was successful at dragging me back in the fold. rofl Keep writing with us, Donna. Guest guest
And keeps saying.. Nome.. Nome.. Alaska... Alaska.. I say Florida.. he sez... hurricanes and horrifying insects.. I say Texas.... he sez... hurricanes, tornadoes and horrifying insects.. all I really want is a nice quiet climate where it stays about 72 degrees year round.. wouldn't mind a white sandy beach with deep blue rolling waves either.. think that might be Hawaii.. but then he asks if I like eating... so... I guess it's a no win situation.. Guest guest
DonnaI went to and Noble and saw that book you mentioned. Cool! I saw another one I want but, alas, it isn't free. It's "Early Columbia County, Pennsylvania (Images of America Series)". That's the county I almost always see in my research. Do you know if Columbia Co has records on line? I think your plans for visiting Bud's grave are the right thing to do. Sometimes it just helps. After my mother died I had some bad times and had a lot of guilt over the way I treated her when I was younger. I went to her grave, talked to her, apologized and cried a river of tears. It made things so much better for me. Now I know that's not what is wrong for you with Bud but I still think it's a good thing for you. Stay strong!I subscribe to Ancestry.com by the month a couple times a year and only keep the subscription for a month or two. It's twenty bucks! I hate that price but I do it once in awhile and get all the info I can in that time period. I am too cheap to keep the subscription going. lolhugs SharonThis email is a natural hand made product.
