Guest guest
Let me see; I cannot remember where I left off.1) Edna and I are both saving up for a car for me to cart us around; we are like sisters, having known one another for about 50 years;2) Despite the above, I am awaiting the arrival of my new power chair as my back and peripheral neuropathy are doing me in; I am tired of falling. Had my car not been stolen, I could still drive; standing and walking (sort of) is just impossible;3) After I get the new used car, I think that I shall save up for a power scooter also, but Medicare was willing to pay for the chair, which is much more expensive and has a range of 10+ miles! Edna lives 3.00 miles from me!4) My wonderful neurologist is terminally ill and has closed his practice, but found me a really good and kind new neurologist, who volunteered to come to visit me in the ER (across the street from his office) when I plummeted down a friends brick steps and removed a lot of skin from my knees, which are now truly black and green. This friend, Lydia, has been driving me to pick up prescriptions and has been bringing food, too, and terrific conversation.I think that the psychological toll of adjusting to being approved for a power chair, which I know I am going to enjoy referring to as "myelectric chair," has been a bit rough. However, I have been lurkinga bit, posting now and then, especially to nne on list.So. . . this is what happens when you ask me a question or two!Love and hugs to you, Sharon, and to every one of you here,nTo: Group <mserslife >Sent: Sat, October 2, 2010 7:13:05 PMSubject: n--what's new? n... Guest guest
I am glad I asked! I am relieved to hear you and Edna are still partners in crime:) I hope you are able to save up the money for a car very quickly. I miss hearing about your jaunts out and about with Edna.I have an old scooter that I sorely want to get repaired. I am at the point where I can admit I need to use it when I'm outside sometimes. I had a power chair but I couldn't ever steer the darned think. I was hopeless at it so I finally sold it to a nice elderly couple from Colorado. Good luck with your power chair and I sure hope you are a better "driver" than I was! I am sorry to hear of your fall. Falling is stupid for adults! Guest guest
My new neurologist will have new MRIs done of my back and head Wednesdayagain to see what else I might have damaged; I am concerned as my kneesdo not seem to be healing, but that may merely be a matter of antibiotics, so Iam phoning my internist on Monday. They did test me with a power chair at the hospital where I was evaluated for the power chair; once they moved the steeringmechanism to the left arm, I was able to steer with great accuracy, but then I am a good driver as well, and despite having had RSD in both arms and hands, haverecovered pretty well.Thank you for your concern, Sharon; perhaps a power scooter would be easierfor you to steer--just like those used in grocery stores--the big ones.Love to you and to all your family, and to all here with us in our MSers Life,nTo: MSersLife Sent: Sat, October 2, 2010 9:30:14 PMSubject: Re: n--what's new?/ reply to Sharon's post and questions. . . . Guest guest
Sorry to hear about your knees. Always troublesome when something doesn't seem to heal. Is it the wounds (scraped skin) that doesn't heal, or is it something more to do with the joint itself? I know you have had some problem with arthritis (or am I wrong?). Some times "bad" joints are slower to heal. I have that problem with my joints. An elbow I injured falling in a stairway some two years ago still hurts now and then, for instance (and it was no serious injury, an inflammation in the joint capsule, nothing broken). It's like you can't "afford" an injury in those joints affected by arthritis and the likes. I seem to remember that you have diabetes too, or am I wrong about that? That may affect the healing of a wound quite a lot, but I am sure you already know that.In any case, I hope your knees will heal up real fast! If it's a wound that won't heal, please have it checked on, and make sure you get antibiotics or whatever else you may need. love/Reb>> My new neurologist will have new MRIs done of my back and head Wednesday> again to see what else I might have damaged; I am concerned as my knees> do not seem to be healing, but that may merely be a matter of antibiotics, so I> am phoning my internist on Monday.
