Guest guest
Hi Folks, As you know, I've been dealing with yeast/mold overgrowth issues again. I had begun to feel some improvement being on Metformin (to lower blood sugar) and doing a digestive cleanse. Of course, karma would have it that I've now been diagnosed with a staph infection--an insect bite, of all things, became a blister and burst--and now the doctor (not my specialist) wants to put me on antibiotics. I am absolutely sick about this, terrified that my fungal problems will spiral out of control. The doctor grudgingly agreed to let me try topical treatment for the rest of the day and tonight, but if it's not resolving by tomorrow morning, he's going to " bring in the big guns. " I have left a message for Dr. Metzger asking which antibiotic would be the least problematic, but with no prescription antifungals currently providing relief, I have no idea how we'd handle a drug-fueled flare. Have any of you with candida had to take antibiotics? Do you have any strategies for balancing their ill effects? I'd be grateful for any advice. Guest guest
Whenever I need to take antibiotics I ask the doctor to prescribe something that I can take with dairy products. Then I eat yogurt two hours before and two hours after I take the antibiotics. PLAIN YOGURT, not the dessert pudding kind. So far I have been lucky. Guest guest
Thanks, Ora. I take hundreds of billions of good bacteria everyday and, even without antibiotics, I'm still battling yeast, so I don't think yogurt is apt to make much of a dent I appreciate the suggestion though! Guest guest
I always had the impression that yogurt (and other probiotics) can prevent yeast infections if taken with antibiotics. But I would not expect it to CURE a yeast infection. When I take antibiotics I eat yogurt to prevent the gastric problems, (diarrhea etc.) and it works for me. I do not have a yeast problem fortunately. I had one yeast infection which I blamed on a heavy-duty tampon which I had trouble removing. Ora >Thanks, Ora.
