>> Hi Marcia, If someone was to start on the low Oxalate diet, what foods do> you think cause the most problems?Hi nne: Well, I can only speak from my own experience of course. As I mentioned, peppercorns are the absolute worst! In fact, any more than 2 teaspoons of pepper a day is trouble. Closely followed by chocolate, the purer the worse the symptoms. Oats and other whole grains. Spinach. Cinnamon. I didn't realize about cinnamon for a good while and I was eating it every day! Here is a REALLY excellent resource for the diet. This website lists low, medium and high oxalate foods. Also, other foods such as citrus aren't high oxalate but can definitely irrate you. I ate too much pineapple one day and had problems later.

www.branwen.com/rowan/oxalate.htm

I have this printed out and stapled together and up on the fridge for reference. Also, there is a low-oxalate cookbook you can buy through amazon.com

If it weren't for this diet I would be completely incapacitated. It isn't fun or easy. I hope that the combination of this diet, going back on LOW dose Elavil and steroid injections every 2 months will put me back on the right path. It's my current plan for now.

Regards,

Marcia G. :)
