Guest guest
I have a kind of recurring dream " theme " , that I find myself living in a new house or building, and I don't remember moving in there! Each time I have this dream, its a different house or building. So, I'm exploring this place I'm living in as though for the first time, and usually I am delighted with finding all this cool stuff I didn't know I had. Sometimes other people live in the house with me, sometimes I am in this new place alone. But the most fun part is discovering entire new parts of the house that I didn't know were there: a whole screened in porch, an attic, a huge bedroom, or even a whole section of the house or building with just acres of rooms... and its all *mine* but I didn't even know about it. Love those kinds of dreams. I've also had the recurring dream about water in various forms, and I really dislike the ones about the huge ocean waves crashing onto the shore, or realizing that I have to go into the water and actually swim around in those scary waves, somehow. Nope, don't like those dreams at all, very anxiety-inducing. I don't like the dreams where I discover that here in late middle age I am back in freaking college or even high-school AGAIN thinking that I need to take a few more classes in order to graduate, and in a panic because I don't know where my classes are or what homework I was supposed to do. Then during the dream I find paperwork that shows me that yes, I already did graduate and I don't really have to be here taking these damned classes, AGAIN. Don't like those dreams; very frustrating. My least favorite dreams are the ones where I'm driving and fighting to control the car; I'm driving on steep hills and fear I'm going to somehow stall out the engine and roll backwards off the road and off a cliff, or somehow the steering wheel isn't working right and I'm going to just sail off the edge of the road and crash in flames far below. One time, I dreamed that I just totally SCREAMED at my nada, really told her off very, very thoroughly, let it all out, and she just simply sat there and accepted it; so, in this dream it was *safe* for me to express my true thoughts and feelings to her. What a fantasy! Most favorite dream themes: (a) Being able to fly on my own power, like Superman. ( Highly creative dreams where I'm seeing things I never saw before, in places I've never been before, in great and excruciating detail. Some of those I can remember well enough to write down when I first wake up; one for example was about a huge, very colorful and unusually-designed apartment building that was meant to be partially underwater and partially on dry land, so that the residents could look at the sea life outside their windows if they wanted to, and part of the building was a kind of art gallery/museum/concert hall that the residents operated and contributed to. In my dream I was marveling at all the interesting items for sale in the museum shop, beautiful things I'd never seen before. Really love those dreams. -Annie > > Hi all, > > I'm back, and thank you for your patience with me. Over time I have noticed we all share strange recurring dreams that we have, and I was wondering how many other dreams we all have that are similar and/or recurring. I thought it might be interesting to get a running list going to compare and see how many dream/dream-types we share. I'll go first, with my most disturbing ones: > > Nada as a car/bed that I am strapped down in and she is out-of-control going to crash and kill me...So I am strapped down in this bed that is actually a car and the bed-car is actually Nada. She is " driving " dangerously fast and out-of-control and I'm afraid for my life. I have absolutely no control and my screams do nothing to slow her down or stop her.--I had this one mostly in my teen years and early 20s when I was still living with her and then coming home from the dorm at college. Particularly in high school this dream was strong and forceful. > > Another recurring theme, though circumstances are different in each one, are the dreams where I murder nada. I still occasionally have this one--usually I do it with a knife. And then I'm trying to not be found out. It's scary because of the horror that I actually did it, the horror that I actually feel relief that I did it, and then the worst part is hiding so I won't be found out. > > Then another recurring dream is being in a department store--usually the military PX where we shopped when I was a child--and trying to hide from her. Guest guest
Ah, jeez. You reminded me of a recurring dream theme where I am looking desperately for the restroom, and when I finally do find one, every toilet in every stall is just filthy and I am frantic to find a clean toilet, somewhere, anywhere. Gah!!! -Annie > > > ** > > > > > > Hi all, > > > > I'm back, and thank you for your patience with me. Guest guest
I would love to know what's up with the toilet dreams. Mine are VERY graphic. That's awesome about discovering rooms in your home in your dreams. how do you interpret that? Sounds like mental health to me!!!! Guest guest
RE the toilet dreams, maybe those mean we don't feel there is a clean or " safe " place in our environment to take care of our basic human needs, so we have to just wait and keep looking for a safe place to just be ourselves? I don't know, maybe the " discovering unknown rooms in my new home " recurring dreams are about searching for mental health, or finding mental health; sounds plausible. All I'm sure of is that I LOVE those dreams, they're very satisfying and happy. Have you ever had a lucid dream, or even a partially lucid dream? A lucid dream is when, as you are experiencing the dream, you actually realize that you are dreaming. I've done that a few times, but its almost always right before I wake up, so I don't get to really do anything with that knowledge. I would love it if I had the ability to " direct " my dreams, like a director filming a movie; that would be awesome. -Annie > > I would love to know what's up with the toilet dreams. Guest guest
Yes, I've lucid dreamed a few times. In the beginning of therapy I was somehow lucky enough to figure out how to cut the umbilical chord between me and my parent's home. Even 8 years NC and I was dragging that shithole behind me. I don't know why even now I picture it like I gave birth to the house but no one ever cut the chord - it's bassacwards, I was birthed out of that mess, not it out of me. But anyway, through lucid dreaming I somehow cut the chord and I am no longer visited by nada and bada in my sleep. thank you god for that. Guest guest
That's cool that you were able to direct your dream and make something good happen that freed you from bad dreams about your nada and bada; that's pretty dam awesome, actually! Maybe you were symbolically severing your misplaced feelings of guilt and responsibility for your nada's and bada's feelings. Forcing one's child into the " parent " role so that the child feels responsible for her mother's well-being and happiness IS " bass-ackwards " ... so maybe you were rectifying that wrongness in your dream, perhaps. But I'm just guessing. Dream symbolism seems to be part of the collective subconscious/universal and yet very personal, both at the same time; I think we as individuals are the only ones who can really interpret our own dream symbolism accurately. (But its fun to guess, too.) -Annie > > Yes, I've lucid dreamed a few times. Guest guest
I started listening to Carl Jung's thoughts on dream analysis on tape, but I haven't finished it yet. I will eventually though. Guest guest
I was surprised to have a dream recently (I suffer from insomnia) where I was in a room with my nada and I jumped on her, pinned her down by straddling her and clamping my left hand over her mouth forcefully saying 'that's enough!'. I remember feeling shocked that I had so much anger to do that and how hurt I've been by everything she's saying that I finally snapped. I felt strange waking up because I felt like I'm not supposed to lose my temper and shocked at deeply hurt I am by what she says but also a little bit of relief. Unfortunately she still says things that hurt...Sunday's call had a classic interjection of 'there's no love in your voice'...ah great, thanks. > > Hi all, > > I'm back, and thank you for your patience with me. Over time I have noticed we all share strange recurring dreams that we have, and I was wondering how many other dreams we all have that are similar and/or recurring. I thought it might be interesting to get a running list going to compare and see how many dream/dream-types we share. Guest guest
Lavendar - my neurolgist has a BPD mother too. I see her for chronic migraines. She said when her mother was dying she dreamed that her mother apologized. It was very healing for her. Sounds like your subconcious is ready to kick her ass - great way to do it. . .in a dream so no one gets hurt On Wed, Oct 5, 2011 at 11:05 AM, Lavender <lavender.flowerdew@... > wrote: > ** > > > > > I was surprised to have a dream recently (I suffer from insomnia) where I > was in a room with my nada and I jumped on her, pinned her down by > straddling her and clamping my left hand over her mouth forcefully saying > 'that's enough!'. Guest guest
I used to have a weird dream that my Dad was friends with me again, albiet to varying degrees- but basically everything was normal and cool, it had all been a misundertanding and everything was forgiven and understood. Guest guest
I had a weird dream about my dad last night. We were in a bus, and he was driving. I was sitting in the seat behind the driver. Next thing I know, I see a brick wall coming up and someone yelling " don't hit the brick wall! " . I look at my dad and he's slumped over in the driver's seat. I am prepared to hit the brick wall, when it seems we go right through it, and my dad is just fine and driving the bus down the street again. Janet  Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.  Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.  It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.
