Hi,

I just want to see if my email only comes through yahoo and not

my internet provider's email, which is rather public to my family,

but they don't know about the yahoo account. I have some issues

that I'd like to privately share, and I need to find out that this is

secure.

Thanks for letting me test this!

hugs, Kate

It came through on the yahoo address. That's what you wanted, right? SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. The slight variations in spelling and grammar enhance its individual character and beauty and in no way are to be considered flaws or defects. Or do you want it not to show up on the group at your provider's address? SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. Kate,

Are you using Yahoo strictly via a web browser, or are you using

something like Outlook Express to read and reply to your email?

If you are using something like Outlook Express that downloads

your MSers group email into it (I use Thunderbird rather than

Outlook Express, because I like it better and it is a little

more secure (not in the manner you're looking for, but virus

wise) than Outlook Express.

In any case, most internet services offer more than one email

address per account. For instance Comcast, allows 6 or 7

individual email addresses. And I'm of a thinking that by your

email address that you share the email address you use for the

group, with the kids as well. (the kidz part of it sort of gives

that away)..

First thing would be to check into the availability of another

email address through your provider. If they are available, then

get yourself one for just your use, and your use alone..

Second thing to check would be.. Does your provider offer the

ability to read and reply to your email via a browser? Most do

these days, and should I decide to use the browser version, I

must sign in each and every time I want to use my email via the

browser...

Thunderbird also offers the option to "master" password the

program itself. It would require entering a password each time

the program starts.

Sooooo... with a little bit of work, you could set yourself up

with a fairly secure email on your home computer that no one

else would be able to read (unless they were curious enough to

want to hack your email, in which case, you just make sure your

password is a darned good one.. When I want to be more secure --

ie. something that wouldn't be easily guessed by someone who

knows me, or easy for a password cracker to break.. I pick a

favorite song.. then a memorable string of words from that

song.. then take the first letter from each of the words in that

string.. maybe break those down into 2 consecutive letters, then

possibly a string of 2 to 4 numbers -- I tend to use things like

my year of birth, but broken into 19 then 58 in between those

letters I was talking about.. so.. SSL19IIA58R (Some Say Love 19

It Is A 58 River).. or toss your house number, parts of your

phone number, or even your social.. something that will be easy

for you to recall (reason for a favorite words to a song for the

letters)..

Once you have that done, then go into the yahoo group settings

and change the delivery instructions there.. instead of

delivering your group mail to the katelloydkidz email address..

set it to your new address.. could even do it by setting

yourself up with a free email account at yahoo, if your provider

only offers one address per account..

That will be just about as secure as your going to get.. and

unless you've got a bunch of computer gurus accessing your

computer, they won't even begin to know how to get into your

email.. it can be done.. not saying that it can't.. but I will

tell you.. as much as I know about computers (remember, we used

to build them, set them up, and did work level 3 internet tech

support for a few years).. I'm NOT even going to try and rebuild

a lost address book, let alone try and restore an inbox folder

buried deep on a hard drive somewhere..

And like others have said.. no email passing through cyberspace

is 100% secure.. but steps can be taken to make it darned

difficult not to mention annoying to try and get to for a

layman.. If you call your provider and ask them to read an email

in your inbox to you, they will probably tell you that they

can't.. and for the most part, they might not be able to.. we

"wonkers" aren't working in tech support much any more... and

those working there probably wouldn't know just how to go about

getting into the sections of servers where email is kept to be

able to read them to you.. but the guys in the Network

Operations Center.. would be able to do so.. IF they #1 had the

time to be reading people's emails.. trust me.. they don't.. the

supergeeks.. have other things they are trying or planning to

try.. Most people working technical support, these days, at

ISP's are reading much of their stuff from a "script"

If you need help with any of this.. I'll be more than happy to

help... Just send me an email "off group".. because those I see

every morning (gotta make my click to get the 6/10 bowl of

dog/cat food donated to shelters every day.. a quarter million

bowls of food donated per day isn't a thing to sneeze at). I

don't always get to our group mail.. (as you can probably tell)

Hope this wasn't too long.. and that it didn't confuse you

either..

HUGS
