Chuck takes Simvistatin for cholesterol. The cardio doc's nurse called today and

said he wants him on Niacin. Start with 1 a day and work up to 4 a day. Chuck

was reading about niacin and it says if you take a statin which he is, and take

niacin, it can destroy the skeletal muscle. Any one on both??

Oh my gosh nne, my hubby is on 3 bp meds, at least 2 statins, and his Dr. just upped his niacin to 2 a night. It has helped bring his LDH down, but at what cost after hearing this? I hate the niacin and how it makes him so hot. We are constantly fighting over the house temp with me being so sedentary I need my house warmer, but he is hot blooded by nature and then to add something that raises his temp even more!!!

Steve also has fibromyalgia and that affects the skeletal muscles, so I wonder if the niacin is affecting his too? Where did Chuck find his info?

Hugs and Love, Jackie

May the peace of God be with you...the love of Jesus enfold you...and the Spirit of Christ fill you.

Jackie for many years, I think back to when the kids were young, we have bought a book called The Pill Book. You can buy it at Wal Mart or any book store. I think its around $7.95. Its a paperback book, very thick, one the cover, in the center it says, The Pill Book, and around the edge shows different pills. I would not suggest that any one that is a hypocondriac(sp) read it. It gives ALL the things that can be side effects but you have to remember most people don't get any side effects. All we did was look under Niacin and it has a couple of pages of info on it. I have the 13th Edition and not sure if the 14th is out.

nne,

I have an older edition of that book.. and I LOVE it.. Have had a

copy.. well since 1987 or thereabouts.. don't know what caused me to

buy it in the first place.. but was ever so glad that I did.. I

don't use it so much anymore, because it's just as easy to bring up

the information sheet on a drug, online.. but I still keep the

copy.. made good reading material at night too.. LOL..

You know those "security questions" you need to give answers too..

in case you forget your password or something like that.. and one of

them always seems to be.. What is your all time favorite book?.. and

I always answer.. "The Pillbook".. people think I'm strange!..

<grin>  (they only think it.. I KNOW it.)
