Guest guest
Has anyone else with PSC had trouble gaining weight? Before PSC I weighed around 190-195(6'4 " ) now after having PSC I hold steady at 170 and can't seem to gain any weight. I know diet has a lot to do with it and also stop drinking. But, does anyone know of a way to safely gain some weight back? Any help would be greatly appreciative! Adam PSC Mar
Guest guest
Adam, Any colon issues? UC? I have always been told that when you have liver issues your food abosorption rate could go down. So for example the 10 oz steak that you eat used to get 80% absorbed is now 50% absorbed. I would say take some suppliments and make sure you are getting things that are easly absorbed and you are getting more than enough. You have to take high concentrated stuff. I have started, just started, to take Alive Shake and it has worked well. You just have to take LOTS in so it gets absorbed better. http://www.naturesway.com/NaturesWay/productdetail.aspx?productid=15390 Hope it helps. Shirin, Arman, Niki & Mateenarman_shirin@... Guest guest
No colon problems, I had a colonoscopy(sp) and it came back clean, nor problems the doctor said. Right now I am on a low sodium, low fat diet(well a little). I do drink Boost each morning. I stay away from soda(2 per month) and drink at least 64oz of water a day. I will try the ALive Shake if I can find a vendor in the area that sells it. Thanks for the help! Adam > > Adam, > > Any colon issues? UC? Guest guest
It may be different, but one supplement is "EnLive", I believe by Ross Laboratories. It is a 2 calorie per ounce supplement that helps with weight gain. Some like it better than other supplements which are milk based or soy based. It comes in several fruit flavors. I have only found a couple pharmacies in this area that carry it. Guest guest
Adam, I was thinking that would be a nice problem to have, but then I remember the two times in my life that I didn't have problems keeping my weight down were because had medical problems. The first time was back in 1988 before I had been diagnosed with PSC. I was losing some weight mostly because I wasn't as hungry as normal. I thought it was great until I did get sick (I now figure it was because of the undiagnosed liver problem). The second time was in 2004 when my thyroid became hyperactive. I could eat as much as I liked but would not gain weight, but would tire very quickly (eg. after a short hike). I hope your lack of weight gain does not mean you have a medical problem.
