Guest guest
Chelle, I am going to a birth center with midwives and there will be no laying in bed unless I feel like it. We are probably doing a water birth, but they also have squatting stools, birth balls, etc. We are not much for the traditional way of doing things! I highly recommend the documentary " The Business of Being Born " to anyone, actually - really eye-opening as to how messed up birth has gotten in our country and how even though we spend WAY more per birth, we have higher infant and mother mortality rates and C-section rates than countries that spend/intervene much less. I only get swollen on really hot, humid days, thankfully. It gets worse as the days go on - I'll be ok in the morning but by the time I get home from work I can't even bend my toes up anymore, they're all puffy! =( Just a few more weeks though! Guest guest
I'm definitely having my babies with a midwife and NOT and ob-gyn if I am a candidate to do so (ie-no complications). I've had such bad luck with obs and the movie " The Business of Being Born " really sealed the deal for me. My midwife does all of my well woman care, she's so sweet and caring. I had seen a so-called vulvodynia specialist who dx'd me with vulvodynia and said I didn't have any yeast. I really wanted a second opinion so a few weeks later I went to a midwife...she said I had the worst yeast infection I'd ever seen. For months the yeast had not been treated by these so-called specialists probably causing all sorts of damage to my delicate vulvar tissue and pelvic floor muscles. Guest guest
Good for you! I used a midwife with my second baby, in a hospital, and it was a great experience, from the beginning of the pregnancy to the birth. In fact, I gave up being a lawyer and became a doula after my birth! My ob/gyn cut a nice big episiotomy with my first baby, who was 6# 11 oz., and my second baby, delivered by the midwife, was 7#, 14 oz, and I had only a small tear, along the episiotomy line of course (because the ob had weakened the tissue there). So, of course I didn't need that episiotomy for a much smaller baby!
