Guest guest
Oh, yeah. When I was first diagnosed with CVID, I remember there was a doctor I consulted informally in NY--Long Island--who wanted to put me on prophylactic Bactrim. Unfortunately I am/has been so allergic to it that another dose would probably do me in. But interesting about the MAC infection being one of the things they were trying to prevent. One of the reasons I convinced my doctors to test me for primary immune deficiencies was that my brother had a serious MAC pneumonia, and he is HIV negative. (Nobody but HIV patients are supposed to get Mycobacterium Avium Complex infections--another little " immune anomaly " in our family...this same brother also had ITP (idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura--an autoimmune disease). Peace, Kathy E. > > Right, I meant Opportunistic Infection, although not limited to Bacterial > sources. > > Our team was equally concerned about PCP and other Protozoal diseases ie: > toxoplasmosis, micorsporidiosis, cryptosporidioses, isopsoriasis and > leishmaniasis > > Bactrim as a Prophylaxis also helps guard against TB, MAC, bacterial > pneumonis and septicaemia, which are, of course bacterial in origin. > > > > Thanks for catching my error! > > Best, > >
