Guest guest
I had my son's vitamins tested last week. I hadn't yet started him on the Vit E. although he is on Pro-Efa and I wasn't about to take him off. I really suspect they'll call me and tell me his levels are normal.. I am really anxious to find out. I also think he will make some progress on the Vit. E. I never realized how much the Pro-Efa impacted him until I forgot it for several days. I think the Vit E will be the same way. At least I hope so!! Amy D. kiddietalk <kiddietalk@...> wrote: , as per 's advice -I just took Tanner to his pediatrician to get the blood analysis done. I believe that's what a few of us have done. That is, once you know what needs to be tested for. I'll try to find it later in the archives unless someone beats me to it (or perhaps if is around to jump in again -but know she's really busy and has already answered so much) The results are more important for research reasons then for us as parents at this point -but of course we are all curious. Once you start supplementing with the E as you have -as in the case of fish oils too -it's harder to know whether there was a deficiancy prior or not -so best case if you are going to test you should do it before as Dawn has done. However like you I didn't want to wait either and I've already started the E and have yet to do the testing. But I still am curious. As reported -we too have seen postive changes on the E in Tanner - but for him greatly in sensory issues -subtle ones in speech but Tanner's not as impaired anymore as he once was. I found it's best to share 's emails with your pediatrician since of course they won't know anything about why or what you are looking for -and even though any of us can explain what has found -it's more powerful coming from her words directly vs third person through us. (Also share of course who is since she is a respected researcher and pediatrician herself -that's on the original email as well) It wasn't complicated and in the cases of vitamin E, no matter what the results of deficiency or no deficiency or subtle deficiency -no harm in supplementing Alpha and gamma natural vitamin E at the dosages we are talking about here regardless. =====

WHAT ABOUT BETA AND DELTA. I PURCHASED ISOMER FROM GNC. IT'S NATURAL TOO, BUT I HAVEN'T HEARD ANYONE TALKING ABOUT THE BETA AND DELTA FORMS OF VITAMIN E. ANYONE? Guest guest
There tends to be some of the other isomers in many of the vitamin E supplements (it is difficult to not have several - since there are actually 8 isomers, beta and delta are among them. No harm in supplements - no one really knows their specific function, and alpha is what the body uses most. However high doses of alpha can induce a gamma deficiency - and although the studies are ongoing to determine all the functions of gamma - it is naturally in the body and has anti-inflammatory properties. Probably not ideal to induce a deficiency. However most of the published vit E studies (nearly all of which describe benefits for a variety of conditions) do not also supplement with gamma. Just based on everything I've learned - it is not a bad idea. But people could probably start out with just alpha and go from there. We saw clinical benefits from alpha and no change or increased improvement adding gamma. On higher alpha doses, we saw even more dramatic improvements. So it does seem at least for my son that it is the alpha tocophorol that is causing the dramatic resolution of his apraxic symptoms, low tone and SID. So bottom line, don't worry about the beta and delta as being harmful. There isn't much of it in the supplements. - > > In a message dated 9/4/2006 9:07:28 A.M.
