Guest guest
I spoke with my Gi doc last night and he is convinced it is PSC even though there are no elevated liver function tests. He strongly suggests the ERCP to verify the cat scan. I was reading about gallbladder dysfunction which can also cause the intrahepatic ducts to dilate. It also said about gallbladder dysfunction that you can diarrhea. I have had diarrhea for a year now about 5-7 times a day now. No other symptoms but the pain in my right side under rib and it isn't all the time. We suggested the MRCP and he said that is two stepping it and not recommended. I picked up the cd of the cat scan and dropped it off at another doctors office for their review. I was also reading about how hard it is to get a liver transplant and I thought getting a bone marrow donor was difficult!! I was surprised to find out my GI doc who is at Mt. Sinai's daughter just got a liver transplant but from Pennsylvania!!! Is it easier to get a liver there?? Thanks
Guest guest
, I can understand your reluctance to get an ERCP, just to confirm suspected PSC. Can you get a prescription for URSO to see if it will relieve symptoms. I quote Stevie, mother of Tyler, they " immediately started him on Urso even without confirmation of PSC. And, guess what within a week, his pain was relieved. LAter he was diagnosed but has not had this pain since as he remains on Urso " . URSO is not toxic, just helps bile flow regardless of the reason for reduced bile flow. Reduced bile flow could be (is likely) the cause of your symptoms. Guest guest
Well I hope for your sake that it's just your gallbladder. I started having pain and stuff early 2002. Finally in January 2006 my gallbladder was removed but the pain continued. I had other tests done and finally had an MRCP this summer. It came back abnormal so I had to have an ERCP to see what was going on. It was then that I was finally diagnosed as having PSC. I wish my doctor would have just ordered the ERCP in the first place because it would have save time, money and a trip to the university 3 hours away. I know you don't wnat to have an ERCP, but that was the only thing that was definative for me. You can try starting the meds and seeing how you do. They won't hurt you either way. Good luck! Guest guest
Martha Thanks for the info. How do I get all the info on transplant centers and outcomes. With bone marrow donation all this info is comprised by the National Marrow Donor Transplant. Is there one organization that houses all that info?? Thx ChrisSee what's new at AOL.com and Make AOL Your Homepage.
Guest guest
Hi , Mt Sinai does a lot of transplants but it also has a huge waiting list, and has had a number of problems in its liver transplant unit. They had to report themselves to the NY Dept of Public Health last year because of a higher than normal number of infections following transplant. They had to suspend their living donor program in 2001 because a donor died due to complications that should have been noticed by nursing staff and residents. Patients can be listed in multiple regions, but at only one hospital in a region, so people in NYC often are listed in NJ or PA.
