Guest guest
Barb, I'll chalk it up to H.E. rather than stupidity (although either is quite possible). I will check in at Blockbuster, today. Guest guest
Barb, I know you weren't insinuating I was stupid, it's a term I use frequently (but with a smile on my face, 'cause I know it'll get better one of these days). I was shocked when I saw the cost of the DVD, too, because I expected someone in his shoes (tx recipient) to be more willing to educate the public for free. Certainly after all these years, I expected the price to be a whole lot less just because even the biggest named movies get cheaper as time goes on. I'm hoping that if I chose to buy it, for future talks, that I can get a deal on educational materials. If not, well I may just tell people about it and leave it at that. Guest guest
-----Original Message----- I found the movie web site, and a way to order it, last night in all of my digging. I, like you, found it expensive ($95). Not sure why anyone would want to buy it, you can rent it at Blockbuster’s. Have no idea how much that costs, (we live out in the country), but bet not more than a few bucks. To see if it’s available in your area go to: http://www.blockbuster.com/catalog/movieDetails/214423 I would guess you could probably rent it on-line or order it to rent on-line. Guest guest
I surely didn’t mean you or anyone who wants to buy it is stupid! It’s just in our house – ya seen it once – it’s over. Besides, ya know, I guess I’m really pissed off by the whole thing. OK J. Redford made a movie, he gets paid for showing it around, good for him. It goes on TV a few times, more royalties, again good for him. But it’s been 9 years, ya think he’d be sending them out now for just the shipping and handling. That’s what I call pay back for HIS OWN Gift of Life. Guess he doesn’t have to do anything, but he’s got money, dear old dad is mega rich. IMHO he should be helping the cause NOT making money off it. Can ya tell, I’m having a bad day???? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr With love, Barb in Texas - Together in the Fight, Whatever it Takes! Guest guest
Barb, I hope your day turns around pronto!!I agree and I wish that Mr. Redford would not only work for organ donor awareness but maybe donate a little to PSC Partners for research. You would think that he would be interested in helping find a treatment and cure for PSC since he had it and knows how lucky he is to get a transplant. LeePS I am also having a bad day as I have an awful sinus infection. Yuck and more yuck but hard to complain about to any folks here. Yuck and more yuck but hard to complain about to any folks here. Are you kidding? Sinus infections, there is really only one word for em – they suck! Of course you can complain to all of us here. Just because someone has PSC, doesn’t mean they don’t understand other people have pain issues too. Pain is pain, no matter what kind or cause. I’d rather have teeth pulled than have a sinus infection. My “pain” today is in the butt kind. I had so much patience when Ken was sick, but now……I just get so frustrated when people don’t do what they are suppose to. The paper work post transplant is driving me nuts! Everything seems to depend on this person doing this and that person doing that – I want to scream good grief pay the *~`{; *~ bill! Tomorrow, tomorrow I love ya tomorrow, you’re only a day away………… With love, Barb in Texas - Together in the Fight, Whatever it Takes! Guest guest
It's a bit hard to judge Redford based simply on the price of his film. For one thing, the $95 price isn't really for a DVD, it's for a package of educational material that includes the DVD and rights to show the DVD to an audience (at lest that's what I saw when I looked it up on the web). That would be illegal with one purchased for personal use. So the price is really reasonable when compared to other movies. It is too bad that it's not available (that I could find) for purchase for personal use, but they've probably found the demand for that to be pretty low, and the rental market probably fills that niche pretty well. Secondly, movie making isn't nearly as profitable as might be expected, especially for movies like this. The movie my brother just finished was ultra low budget (by today's standards... around $600,000) but it will have to sell about 300,000 copies before they even break even, let alone make a lot of money. I don't know how much this movie cost and how much it's made, but it's unlikely that anyone's getting extremely rich off of it. Thirdly, there is a nonprofit Redford Institute for transplant awareness which is who is selling this and two other films made about transplants, and who apparently gets the profit (if any) from the films. So the money you pay for the movie will go back into supporting organ donor awareness. Not too bad a deal if you ask me! I'd be happy too if he were supporting PSC Partners, but I can't really find much fault with the way he is using his money and his time! athan
Guest guest
Well that's interesting. I tried to get it from the library, but they don't carry it. I didn't even try Blockbuster. Guest guest
You should be able to buy a DVD for personal use, and the price is $29.95. I agree that he seems to be using his time, talents and money wisely.
