Call for Study Participants for Online Survey Sexual Health Research Lab - Queen's University (Canada)

The Sexual Health Research Lab at Queen's University studies many facets of sexuality, including vulvar pain, in an attempt to better understand the various ways vulvar pain impacts a woman's life. They have examined pain sensitivity, pain control, ways of dealing with pain, impact on relationships, and recently, a treatment study investigating the effectiveness of pelvic floor physical therapy in reducing pain.

At this time, they are in need of women who experience vulvar pain to participate in an online study. The purpose of the study is to examine pain, relationship and sexual functioning and body image. The results of this study will be used to better understand how vulvar pain impacts women and will hopefully increase awareness of this problem and impact the way vulvar pain is treated.

Participation begins with a brief telephone call. Staff will explain more about the study and ask women a few questions to determine their eligibility. Calls are completely confidential and participants may choose not to answer any of the questions. If eligible, women will be given a login ID number and a website to visit where they complete several questionnaires anonymously. The survey takes 45-60 minutes to complete. Upon completion, women will a check for $10 (Canadian). If women have partners that would also like to participate, they will be given a second ID number for their partners to complete the study. In this case, both the participant and her partner would each receive $15 for their participation. If women would like to know what the study finds, the researchers will send them the study results upon completion.

If you would like more information or are interested in participating, please send an email to shrl@... or call . Alternately, information can be viewed online at this site: http://psyc.queensu.ca/faculty/pukall/projects.htm.

Senators Specter and Harkin Call for $5.2 Billion for NIH Now

Tell Congress to Support NIH Funding

On July 16, Senators Arlen Specter (PA) and Tom Harkin (IA) called on Congress to provide the National Institutes of Health (NIH) with an additional $5.2 billion in research funding for FY 2008. Senators Specter and Harkin, the ranking member and chair of the Senate LHHS Appropriations Subcommittee, introduced the NIH funding bill to distribute $4 billion to NIH institutes and $1.2 billion specifically to the National Cancer Institute. These funds restore the NIH's purchasing power that was lost due to inflation over the last five years. Senator Specter noted that "funding for NIH is grossly insufficient and Congress must do something about this scandalous situation." Senator Harkin added, "It is vital for the Congress to support our scientists as they search for treatments and cures that could provide hope to millions of Americans."Take action

NOW and contact your elected officials asking them to champion health research and support the NIH Emergency Supplemental bill. You may do so at this web site: http://capwiz.com/ram/issues/alert/?alertid=11665166
