Guest guest
The Cadenza Center is pleased to announce the addition of Art Therapy services to our roster of specialized interventions! Why Art Therapy? Children with ASD can benefit from a multi-sensory learning approach. Sensory based art making is a fascinating modality that allows children to engage in creative expression with no pressures. Using this approach, an Art Therapist can assess the severity of tactile issues and can help the child build tolerance in this area. Depending on the nature of the tactile defensiveness, the art therapist can use materials within the art making or as a separate activity of just playing with the materials; this starts the process of de-sensitizing the child in a fun and non-threatening manner. Art adds some important components for children and teens with ASD. Art teaches imagination and abstract thinking skills, often lacking with this population. In addition, visual representation can be easily understood, where verbal directions can be challenging. Visual imagery can be incorporated into any cognitive learning subjects. Individual and small group sessions are available. In addition, music therapy sessions are now also being scheduled for the coming school year. Located in downtown Hollywood, the Cadenza Center offers additional services provided by licensed psychologists and master's level clinicians to meet the needs of individuals with ASD and their families.
