Guest guest
i was up at mayo clinic and was diagnosised with vulvodnyia. i don't have pain, i have extreme burning, like a blow torch. they gave me elavil and said to start at 5 mg and increase it by 5 - 10 mg once the fatigue passed. it will knock you out, so take it early evening or you can't get up in the morning. i was up to 120mg elavil plus 1800mg neurontin. the pain was minimal but the side effects are horrid. i am normally 105 lbs and barely 5' tall. between these meds i put on 15 lbs and no matter what i do i can't get it off. i normally don't have trouble with my weight, but this stuff will do it to you. The up side of it is that i am much calmer which is good because i don't need anymore speeding tickets, i'm normally very hyper. anyway, i'm trying to ween of the elavil and onto the cymbalta. don't know if it's gonna work but i have to give it a try. good luck with the elavil, it will probably help.Subject: Elavil starting dosage? To: VulvarDisorders Date: Wednesday, September 10, 2008, 11:46 AM I saw an out of town OBGYN Dr.Slack for the first time yesterday, and she prescribed me Elavil 10 mg at night. She also insisted I use Lidocaine 2x a day to calm the nerves. I go see her again on Oct.10th for a follow-up to check how I'm doing and if she needs to up the dosage. For the women who take or who have taken Elavil, does this seem dosage seem correct? If so, how long and up to what dosage should I work up to? Honestly, I'm nervous about taking an antidepressant because I've never been prescribed any meds to take orally to treat VVS until now. It'll be a year next month, since I was diagnosed and I feel like I've been put through the wringer....as you all can relate.
Guest guest
Thanks . My doctor put me on Elavil to quiet down the nerves, like turn them down a notch. I only have pain on contact, when I have intercourse most of the time, it immediately starts burning at the opening. Along with the burning, my insides feel raw and inflammed, which makes intercourse VERY uncomfortable not to mention down right! I haven't had intercourse since I started this medication and when I do I hope I notice less burning due to the Elavil doing its job. ** Elavil starting dosage?
